Patnam's guru, Manambuchavadi Venkatasubbier, composed a song in the raga Kutuhalam.vasanthakokilam wrote:From kartanik.com

Patnam was supposed to have changed one note in the raga to create Kathanakutuhalam.

madilOna-Raga kOlahalam - composed by Thyagaraja....
rendered by Vaigal-Gnanaskandan

I could not find any other song available in this Raga kolahalam...
Vaigal-Gnanaskandan is the guru for many well known Artists....Shri V Sankara narayanan, Sikkil Guru charan, Smt Gayathri Girish and others..
He is the disciple of Semmankudi Srinivasa Iyer..
He is also a composer..
Abhishek Krishna is 8 years old (as of 2007) and has been learning vocal carnatic music for 3.5 years from Shri. Vaigal S. Gnanaskandan. He received the title "Sangita Bhaskara" from the Gnanaskandan Trust in September 2005....

Re: Kolakalam
I have read that the correct way is kathanakutUhala and that it is often mispronounced and spelled as kadanakutUhala.rshankar wrote:Shouldn't it be kadanakutUhala(m)?
I will try to find some material that supports the above statement.

Re: Kolakalam
Sreeni, Sri BMK, in the caraNasAhitya of his tillAnA in this rAga, sings, '...madana kadanakutUhaluDu...' - since he is usually very exact with the pronunciation of words, I assumed it was kadanakutUhala...
