Most jugalbandis are like a format and a bit contrived, with a distinct North-South question-answer type rendition. Not this one!
24 plus mins of sheer bliss. Haven't come across a more seamless, smooth, singularly melding and flowing performance in jugalbandi. I have been on the repeat mode on this.

Nice one .
The origins of these duets as we know them today probably lie in the spirit of india concerts of doordarshan .The duet of bhimsen joshi - balmurali was a watershed occasion . Having watched that program live on independence day and the many re-runs in various avathars , these duets can be justified only from one angle :
Introducing the high and mighty of one stream ( from rasikas to performers ) to the intricacies of the other .
As Ravindra Yavagal mentioned to me once - En Thala hiditharo marayare nimmavaru , namblikkagallaree pa ( your cm brethren are so sharp in laya matters , unbelievable ) . So we can see that duets can mean a lot to everyone .Even for a seasoned artist .
I welcome the recent trends of the duet portion being only a part of the program and the individual artists performing a major item individually too .
It would be a great day if the listeners take away something from the stream they were not accustomed to , from such programs . And this is where opportunity lies for thinking musicians . It is never a test of relative strengths .
Judged by this one can see specific teams " happening "- shaunak-shankarnarayan is one such .I have been to one live concert and found it interesting .
These will never satisfy the purist . A bit like the exhibition matches played by Soccer teams or Tennis Players .The purer part of the art has to take a backseat in order to convince the sceptic that there is something for him too.
