Re: Lyrics and Meaning- NavanArasimha
Salutations to the nine forms of narasimha,
residing in ahObala, on the banks of BhavanAShini.[p]
The ever valorous, wrathful, jvAlA [flaming] narasimha,
The ever splendid, splitting [enemies] like a lion,
The merciful,superior,yOgAnanda narasimha
The serene, peaceful, narasimha with a kind gaze[c1]
Again, arrogant,revolting,intoxicated [with anger] narasimha
narahari,the BhArgava narasimha
the Complete,decorated, prahlAda narasimha
The Prosperous, Marvelous,lakShmI narasimha[c2]
The ferocious faced varAha narasimha
the narasimha with an unspoiled glory
SrI vEnkaTESha,you exceed here and hereafter
the Plentiful narasimha of ten thosand[innumerable] shapes.[c3]

Re: Lyrics and Meaning- NavanArasimha
Thanks Smt. Savitri. A nice kriti on the forms. Narasimha is such an interesting avatar and is considered to be a difficult form to worship given his best known very aroused, angry form. This, in contrast to the perception of Vishnu, a peaceful form who is never ruffled.
From the net, additional info :
There are said to be 74 forms of which nine are considered most prominent (Nava-vyuha-narasimha):
(1) Ugra-narasimha (2) Kruddha-narasimha
(3) Vira-narasimha (4) Vilamba-narasimha
(5) Kopa-narasimha (6) Yoga-narasimha
(7) Aghora-narasimha (8) Sudarsana-narasimha
(9) Laksmi-narasima
In Ahobila, Andhra Pradesh, the nine forms are as follows:
(1) Chhatra-vata-narasimha (seated under a banyan tree)
(2) Yogananda-narasimha (who blessed Lord Brahma)
(3) Karanja-narasimha (4) Uha-narasimha
(5) Ugra-narasimha (6) Kroda-narasimha
(7) Malola-narasimha (With Laksmi on His lap)
(8) Jvala-narasimha (an eight armed form rushing out of the pillar)
(9) Pavana-narasimha (who blessed the sage Bharadvaja)
Other forms are as follows:
Stambha-narasimha (coming out of the pillar)
Svayam-narasimha (manifesting on His own)
Grahana-narasimha (catching hold of the demon)
Vidarana-narasimha (ripping open of the belly of the demon)
Samhara-narasimha (killing the demon)
The following three refer to His ferocious aspect:
Ghora-narasimha
Ugra-narasimha
Chanda-narasimha
Jvala-narasimha (with a flame-like mane)
Laksmi-narasimha (where Laksmi pacifies Him)
Prasada-narasimha or Prahlada-varada-narasimha
(His benign aspect of protecting Prahlada)
Chhatra-narasimha (seated under a parasol of a five-hooded serpent)
Yoga-narasimha or Yogesvara-narasimha (in meditation)
Avesha-narasimha (a frenzied form)
Attahasa-narasimha (a form that roars horribly and majestically strides
across to destroy evil)
Chakra-narasimha (with only a discus in hand)
Brahma-narasimha, Vishnu-narasimha, and Rudra-narasimha
Prthvi-narasimha, Vayu-narasimha, Akasa-narasimha, Jvalana-narasimha, and
Amrta-narasimha (representing the five elements)
Pusthi narasimha (worshipped for overcoming evil influences)
There are still other varieties which are standing, riding on Garuda, alone, in company, benign, ferocious, and multi-armed (two-sixteen). All of these forms point to the diversity in transcendence of the Narasimha-Avatar.

Re: Lyrics and Meaning- NavanArasimha
Smt. Savitri - great translation. Some families only have pictures or deities of narasimha with lakshmi in their houses, and not any of solitary narasimha, because it is only as lakshminRsimha he is supposed to be benevolent.

Re: Lyrics and Meaning- NavanArasimha
Apart from the nine-temple complex in Ahobilam, Cuddapah District of Andhra Pradesh, there are other famous temples of Narasimha. Simhachalam near Vishakhapatnam is presided by Varaha Narasimha, Mangalagiri, a little away from Vijayawada is ruled by Paanaka Narasimha, Vedadri on the banks of the Krishna river also away from Vijayawada in a different direction has Jwala Narasimha, Ugra Narasimha and Lakshmi Narasimha while Yadagirigutta near Hyderabad has Kalyana Lakshmi Narasimha.
Vedadri is the place where Saint Narayana Teertha of the Krishna Leela Tarangini fame took Sanyasa and meditated for many years amidst crocodiles on a solitary in the river. I was blessed enough to make three rounds of pradakshina namaskara with bare feet during the hottest period in May at 45 deg.C at this shrine on the hill top.
Mangalagiri is famous for the amount of panaka that the Lord drinks. Only half of the offering is taken - be it a spoon or a mug or a bucket of panaka or milk or any liquid. The other half overflows out if tried further.
Yadagirigutta grants boons to people who are unmarried for long time. They get married soon after visiting the temple and praying to the Lord.
Dikshitar's kriti "Narasimha aagachcha" is on the deity at Sholingur in TN.
It may be noted that all the temples of Narasimha ( old & famous ones ) are on hill tops only. The previous Jeer of Ahobila Mutt described Lord Venkateswara as the " younger mountain mate " of Narasimha.
