Post by cyberrekha »

Sharanu siddhi vinayaka Sharanu vidya pradayaka
SharaNu parvati tanaya muruti Sharanu mushika vahana

Charana3: Kukshi maha lambhodharane ,
Ikshu chapana gelidana
Pakshi vahana siri
Purandara vittalana dasane.

meaning: God who has a big paunch and belly,
Who is the devotee of the God?
Who won over the God who holds a sugar cane bow,
And Purandara vittala who travels on a bird

In this, I want to know what is the context of "won over the God who holds a sugar cane bow".Please if anybody can explain??

Rekha-ji,
My research tells me that Ganesha holds a sugarcane bow in one hand symbolising his conquest over 'Kama' I.e. Manmatha who shoots arrows from his sugarcane bow to make people yield to the attractions of the opposite sex or carnal temptation. That is what is implied here- as one who has won over 'Kama'

A small correction:
It is 'lambOdarane'.
