Wonderful concert by Carnatica Brothers - Shashikiran & Ganesh accompanied by Jay Shankar Balan (violin) and Umayalpuram Bhairav (mridangam) @ the Bridgewater temple, NJ on 29 Sep 2012. Carnatica Brothers performed yesterday to support Bhairav's fundrising efforts to help Homefront - an organization commited to help the homeless in Central New Jersey.
Shashikiran & Ganesh complimented each other very well. The concert was a delight to music lovers and was very well attended and received.

Some of the songs they performed include:

Thanks for the review. Rare to see a kauthuvam sung in a music concert.

Shashikiran announced that they took the request of a rasika for the ragam of the RTP namely Kosalam. They demonstrated their ability to try something dynamic and constructed a theme behind it in the tanam singing choosing ragas representing places. The entire concert was a real treat to the audience.

How is it that concert after concert the pallavi is impromptu, at the request of the audience, in a raga given by a member of the audience?

It is that years of hard work are put in by musicians, during which they acquire the skills required to execute a pallavi in any given raga. Perhaps, some artists thrive off the challenge posed to them by the audience, and it could also be that they feel that such a move would enable rasikas to appreciate their vidvat that may at times go unnoticed.

That's my 2 cents. May I ask how do you think it is so, and what your reasons are for believing so?
