With the permission of the forumites giving below the review made by my grand daughter on the above concert.
T.V. Sankaranarayanan's concert on Sunday and it was truly an MMI centenary concert !
TVS started off with Vathapi Ganapathim, a MMI staple. TVS mentioned that he had saved the Hamsadhwani starter piece for this event (SF Bay Area was the last leg of his 2012 US tour).
This was followed by brisk renditions of Rama Bhakthi and Seethama Mayamma. The Vasantha piece was pregnant with signature sarva-laghu kalpana-swaras. (TVS mentioned that Vasantha was one of MMI's favorite ragas).
Apparently, MMI had an habit of highlighting his guru's composition in each of his concerts. So, TVS embarked on Valli Naayakane (Shanmukhapriya) and Sarasamukhi Sakala (Gowda Malhar) as tribute to both MMI and Harikesanallur Muthaiya Bhagavathar.
The main piece of the concert was of course, Kapali in Mohanam. (TVS mentioned that Vishwanatha Iyer had bestowed the title of "Mohana Mani" on MMI after hearing his Mohanam). Tiruvarur Bakthavatsalam's Thani was electrifying to mark the occasion. Vittal Ramamurthy gave ample support to a soulful rendition.
TVS appeared visibly moved all through the concert. He had composed a 8-line virutham as a tribute to MMI, set to Hamsanandhi (TVS's favorite raga). That was followed by by Eppo Varuvaro, again a Mani Iyer standard. At that juncture, I had to leave the concert. I suspect TVS finished the concert with an English Note and we missed it !
In all, it was an all-in-all MMI concert. Very memorable and very well rendered.

Tanjavooran,
The reviewer takes after her grandfather--in rasanai and reporting! She wants to remain in cognito?
Thanks to her for the review. TVS would have given a moving finale, no doubt.
MMI and his father Vembu Iyer live on in his music and in the future will, in his talented children. MMI is alive in Suryaprakash's singing and in the music of performers who are inspired by him. Above all, MMI has a permanent place in the heart of countless rasikas.

Thanjavooran avl: Like Arasi said, Special thanks to your grand daughter for the review. How old is she? I am very pleased that there is another new generation of MMI music lovers already!
