The organizer of this concert was head over heals in praise of Amritha Murali and one could not but agree with him after hearing the concert. She sang amazingly. The way she handled kritis like srI kamalAmbikAyAm and bhArati mAmava was commendable. The accompanying artists also played beautifully and more importantly, followed the compositions very well on their own instruments so as to embellish Amritha’s rendition of the songs.

SSP lists this as a composition of kRShNaswAmayya. Is he the same as tirunelvEli krsihnaswAmy iyer?

Dr Shrikaanth: I am not sure ... may be Sri Lakshman can throw more light on this.

Thanks Lakshman ji for the composer's name.

Lakshman, what's your source for the rAgamAlikA piece? I was (until now) under the impression that it was a composition of S.Kalyanaraman.

The reference is from the inlay card of S.Kalyanaraman's cassette - Sangeetha 6ECDB 147. The composer's name is mentioned as Shuddha Satvananda (aka N.S.Chidambaram).

Lakshman Ragde's book Alphabetical Index of Karnatak Songs also lists Ni tan tunai as a composition by N.S.Chidambaram

I have a commercial recording of Gayatri Girish singing nItAn tuNai nIlAmbarI, and it is identified as a composition of Sri N. S. Chidambaram in the jacket.

Garland book states that he lived between c1840 and 1900. An advocate and a scholar, he lived in Tirunelveli. With Subbarama Iyer, he jointly composed some songs. A publication from Ettayapuram, in 1906, contained 31 songs in samskrt, fourteen in telugu and thirteen in tamil.
some of his other compositions: amba paradEvatE in rudrapriyA, jaya jaya in sAvEri, pAhimAm bAla in darbAr, namAmi vighna vinAyaka in hamsadhvani and gOpikA ramaNam in dEvagAndhAri. He has also composed a mangaLam in 11 rAgAs (mangaLam mangaLam mInAkSi tE).
He is different from C.S.Krishnaswami Ayyar who was a disciple of Patnam.

Ok so kRShNaswAmi ayya/kRShNaswAmayya of SSP is the same as tirunelvEli kRShNaswAmi ayyar. Thanks
Of the compositions you have mentioned, rudrapriya, sAvEri and dEvagANdhAri kRtis are notated in the SSP.

The dEvagandhAri krithi of Krishnaswami Ayya 'gOpikA ramaNam' is a real gem despite it's wordiness and offers a very different view into this rAgA. The madhyama kala passages are especially very nice.
