Re: Ramakrishnan Murthy @ Ranjani Fine Arts - Nov 10
It was an excellent concert.
Sub Main: Nattakkurinji- Nandanar Charithram of Gopalakrishna Bharathi song- Vazhi maraiththirukkude- mostly low pitch. I do not know how many enjoyed it. I did.
A nice Mayamma starting from "Nyaayama Meenakshi"
Main- Keeravani
There was a ragamalika virutham - seemed to be a merger of two languages, the latter one Tamil- don't know who the composer was, followed by a Kapi piece.
Authoritative and competent presentation. Age: it was told that in 1997 he was 8 years old. Yes. With my sharp mathematical acumen, I worked out and immediately came to the conclusion that he is now..... Less than 25. Nalina Mohan, Jayachandra Rao and Omkar gave a fillip to the overall quality of the concert. There was prasadam too.

Listened to his concert in BSU last week.Good singing no doubt. His chalanaata was v.good with shades of Jog and the main in bEgada - naadopaasana was good too.The only prob.is its very difficult to understand the lyrics. In my view his nose is blocked and words are not coming out properly. This I have been watching for say more than 2 years. He may require a surgery on the nose.

Ayyo paavam
. There is no problem in his voice. Don't push the poor chap into OT
. I understand what meera is saying. In some items words are totally indecipherable eg. Nandanaar song. I think it happens in low pitch areas.
Anyhow he has good future. Besides singing, today's youngsters should position themselves well with the audience and organisers without much fuss. Then growth will come automatically. Sincerely wish him good luck. Attendance was inadequate for this class of singer. Hope it will improve with time.

He may require to use his lungs, open his mouth, project his voice and sing out!
The result will be wonderful, as even now he is a very talented, musical and creative artist. I had the pleasure, and pleasure it was indeed, despite being somewhat hard work, of hearing his mic-less Oli concert

I was wondering the same. They did record the concerts, and say that they would be available online. I did listen to the TNK concert, but don't know about other ones.
They won't be back until January, and the series is drawing to a close (unless someone takes over the funding
) as their year of promised concerts comes to an end.

The audio stream at the bottom of the page:

Some of the links are not working for me - I wanted to listen to TNK again, but couldn't. Ramakrishnan's concert plays though.

Ramakrishnan Murthy's concert was a grand showcase of the musical flow the artiste has achieved. Commencing with the ata tAla varna in kalyAni, it just kept coming effortlessly !! The gowla masterpiece of Muttuswami Deekshitar “tyagarAja pAlaya” was rendered at a lilting pace followed by some teasing swarAs. A rarely heard mukhAri kriti of TyagarAja “sarasEruhAnana” took off at a fair clip which was followed by some inspired swarAs.
Ramakrishnan eased himself and the rasikAs with a wonderful dileniation of nAtakuranji. A combination of different paced rhythmical patterns brought out the different nuances of the rAga. Nalina Mohan's return was crisp and 'to the point'.
The predominantly mandara stayi kriti of Gopalakrishna Bharati “vazhi maraittirukkude” was well rendered with nereval and authoritative swara prastAra in mishra chapu tAla. The Ahiri masterpiece “mAyamma” was neatly rendered and this was the prelude to an expansive keeravAni presentation. The keeravAni rAga presentation was profound with the madhyama holding the rAga on either side of the development. Different laya patterns of the rAga came to the fore as music kept gushing forth. The tAra stayi sanchAras were simply scintillating with good violin accompaniment by Nalina Mohan. Her return touched all the right notes of the rAga. The royal kriti of TyagarAja “kaligiyunte kada” was rendered in it's pristine beauty with nereval at 'bAguga sriraghurAmuni'. Swara prastarAs were largely in the slower tempo before a tri-stAyi round up led up to the tani Avartanam. Tumkur Ravishankar and Omkar Rao paired up very well to produce an excellent tani. Some very interesting patterns were demonstrated with aplomb by both the artistes.
The stage was set now to pace down the concert with a lilting bEhag followed by Kamalesha Vittala's “kandu dhanyanAde”. A soulful rendition of a rAgamAlika viruttam ( bAgeshree, darbAri kAnada, sucharitra and kApi) was followed by PApanAsam Sivan's “sOdanai sumaikku” in kApi. Purandara DAsa's “neenyako” was rendered as a rAgamAlika before Bhadrachala Ramadas's mangalam “rAmachandraya”.
Many people decided to enjoy Deepavali with family and friends as it was a festive weekend. And those who attended the concert, regaled in the cracker of a concert !!

Mr Brahmakal, thanks...really wish we could get a good audio file of KaNDudhanyanAde..RKM seems to have excelled himself.
PS: first time I saw use of the idiom 'eased himself' in such a context...English is a troublesome language indeed!

(
English is full of troublesome idioms, and this one probably should have been eased himself in or eased himself into [the song] . I don't think a person can "ease themselves."
)
arvind.brahmakal, no offense, and not wishing to take anything away from your very welcome review. Please just ignore this side issue
EDIT: having second thoughts about this. The usage would be, I think, unusual, but I'm not confident to say that it is wrong :$

Nice gaula link. as written before RKM has a lot of similarity in voice power with TMK. Impressive rendition. Also this is the first time I am noticing some one handling sucharita as the viruththam , that clipping alone if you can bring up that would be nice(not pushing you or the artist hard, just try if you can).
