I attended Smt. Kiranavali Vidyasankar's Concert at Mylapore Fine Arts on 16th November focusing on her Guru T. Brinda's bani.
She was accompanied by Ranjani Ramakrishnan (violin), Saigiridhar (mridangam) and Nerkunam Sankar (kanjira)
After a short talk by Shri. Shashikiran about their Guru, Kiranavali presented a pleasant traditionally adhering concert with anecdotes about some of the songs she presented.
The concert list consisted of -
1. Sahana varnam - Thiruvotriyur Tyagayya
2. Dayajoochutaku (Ganavaridhi, Adi, Tyagaraja),
3. Ambaparadevate (Rudrapriya, Khanda Chapu, Krishnaswamy Ayya)
4. Satrevilahi (Poorvikalyani, Rupaka, Gopalakrishna Bharati),
5. Epapamu (Athana, M. Chapu, Tyagaraja) -
(When under Naina Pillai's tutelage, T. Brinda was asked to sing this song in a fast tempo without compromising on the gamakas. Kiranavali did the same, this song had a different feel to it as compared to other compositions in Athana!)
6. Gajavadana (Todi, Adi, Kumara Ettendra)
7. Entatikuluke (Kalyani javali, Rupaka, Dharmapuri Subbarayar),
8. Tamarasaksha (Yadukulakambhoji padam, Tishra Triputa, Kshetragna),
9. Tillana ( Poornachandrika, Adi, Poochi Iyengar),
10. Kurvel pazhitta (Madhyamavati Tiruppugazh, Khanda gati)
Overall a very good concert with accompanists playing their parts beautifully.
