Raga Dhanyasi has a charming feel, and has a mix of the folk and classical essence. The Dhanyasi of today has an almost elitist status because of the weighty gamakas that characterize the raga, many of which are unique to Dhanyasi. This programme presents information on and songs in Raga Dhanyasi and includes a rare varnam.

Muthuswami Dikshitar's compositions are often microcosms of the ragas in which they are composed, and they give well-defined and pretty comprehensive pictures of the ragas. Many of his compositions are in rare ragas; many of his compositions in even common and well known ragas also remain rarely performed. This programme features rare compositions of Muthuswami Dikshitar.

His renditions of the classical ragas is strictly by book and is adept at detailed expositions of ragas such as Andolika, Behag and Brindava Saranga. He is a student of senior musician Mangad Natesan, a student of Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. An unassuming person, Dileep Kumar lets his music speak for him, and quite eloquently at that.

The Samashti Charanam is unique feature in a kriti where the Charanam also stands in for the Anupallavi. Muthuswami Dikshitar has composed a good number of kritis with Samashti Charanam. His kritis with Samashti Charanam also generally have a madhyama kaala passage at double the speed; a good number of them also have been provided chittaswaras, which adds another attractive angle to them. These features make these short-versed kritis pack quite a punch when performed.
