A cracker of a concert by TMK. There was bit of an expectancy as he was back at Gayana Samaja auditorium in less than month after a bitter experience with the sound system and some frayed tempers. The auditorium had an additional sound system with as many three feedback monitors for the artists and the overall sound quality was very good.

Beautiful rendition of janani ninnuvina followed by some nice swaras. A detailed shanmukhapriya alapana with TMK trying to sing the extremes of the three octaves. I am not a big fan of the very high and very low note singing but the alapana overall was high on melodic content. The neraval was very nice too.

A detailed kaanada alapana (spanning three octaves again) was also very pleasant. TMK asked Venkatram to play the tanam which was quite nice. Venkatram's accompaniment through out the concert was very complementary. TMK started counting the beats while humming Nera Nammiti and for a moment, it felt that he might sing a pallavi. He sang the atta talam varnam very well. This was followed by a fairly good tani by Arjun kumar and Giridhar Udupa.

Mohana kalyani ragam and tanam were rich in bhava and the pallavi lyric was short and very sweet. The ragamalika swaras were the highlight for me. The ragas that were selected were nice and the transitions were smooth and beautiful. TMK started with mohana swaras and when the violinst followed with his mohana reply, he asked him to play another raga after playing one or two mohana sangatis. TMK and Venkatram in turns then started where the other left off and moved to a new raga.

A fast paced thillana and sloka rounded off a good evening of music.
