Walked into almost full house and missed the first item looking for a pair of empty seats.

Sri mahaganapathyravathumaam in gowlai with swaras at pallavi line.

An all too brief overview of yamuna kalyani followed by jambupathe in progress.

Ended with a solo sangati studded maam pahi by rammohan.

A brief Vasanta alapana followed by seethamma mayamma heard less than 16 hours in the same hall. Seems like the top 40 of carnatic music season.

Fast paced gripping neraval & tag teamed swaras @ dharanija bhagavata ending in a flourish with a nice korvai draws a big applause from even the reluctant audience member next to me.

Poorvikalyani or Todi seem to be the ragas of choice for elaboration by "budding" artistes as they provide enough finger and toe-holds for a musician to navigate through. Todi being taken up for alapana now & some masterful long aakarams perking the audience up.

Dachukorvalena is the kriti taken up for lyrical development. A vilamba kala neraval at sowmitri thyagaraju with excellent support showcasing the duo's talent.

Mel kala neraval where rammohan's intense crescendo finish draws a round of applause.


Now a thani with great encouragement from the artistes.

Rarely you come across Vocalist with good voice in all respects (tonal quality/volume/traverses all three octaves freely & pleasing to the ear) in Carnatic music. GNB was one such person. TN Seshagopalan was another. Trichur Brothers belong to this elite groups with gifted voice in CM today. When someone is blessed with such a rich voice it is difficult to be ordinary. This is precisely the feeling I got in Trichur Brothers concert at Music Academy. The concert structuring & selections were excellent. If they remain ordinary conservatives (madi sanchees) like me will be delighted. But then they may not attract the huge crowd which they had for today's concert.

I will take a try, I had seen them performing a month or two back at kotturpuram , the brothers are growing a beard now , and that is what sureshvv is saying as exactly opposite. This must be a concert where their father trichur mohan is not playing mrudhangam.

Don't think so. At least not both. Ram Mohan was clean shaven. They were in all white last season, so I think it was an attempt at change. Can't say it worked.

How were the accompanists? I've never heard of Sumesh. Karaikkal Venkat is TNK's sishya.

KNV, the brothers often transgress with an RTP in jOg, so don't worry about their excessive "normalcy".

I have seen Sumesh as a kid with a capability beyond his age. In this concert, his playing was subdued and he started out the thani with some interesting patterns which were well appreciated by the brothers. Sorry my fundas are limited here. Think he is bhakthavatsalam's student.

I felt Sumesh is Umayalpuram's sishya-but the next seater corrected me that he is Bhaktavatsalam's.
An overhearer hastened to add that my guess was acceptable as Bhakta had learnt under Umayalpuram too!

i think the all black was just to contrast the white-based backdrop of MA.

heard the first part of this concert from the canteen of MA and from the balcony from dAchukOvalEnA onwards.
Karaikkal Venkat was good in parts.
Sumesh played a rather elaborate and wonderful tani.
