Was there till the start of the pallavi only. by then it was already 2 hours 45 mins and I had enough music for a day (RV, PV & SS)
+great percussion support, not hard on the ears
+sv's violin, especially his manirangu alapanai
+swaras and repartees
Could manirangu at times give a pushpalatika-is feel? I felt there were traces of ikanaina nA in the alapanai.

Manirangu is closer to Sri raga and Madhyamavathi.

Khanjira might have been C S Venkataramanan who is the son and disciple of Khanjira Vidwan C.K.Shyamsundar.

The concert of the MASTER at KALARASNA has always been special over the years. And this year was no different and probably a notch or two better than past years. The shift from Rani Seethai Hall to the more pleasing and nice Tapovan Hall at Chetput is a welcome change.
TOP NOTCH CONCERT by the MASTER and excellent violin by the evergreen partner Varadarajan.
The highlight was the masterly presentation of MAAMAVA PATTABHI RAMA with detailed alapana, neraval and swarams. Mani-ana MANIRANGU !!!
If that delight was not enough came the OVERFLOWING Kamboji RTP and when there were a few whispers about the possibility of pallavi line being "Boologa Vaikundam..." given it was one day before Vaikunda Ekadasi day, came the typical line from the MASTER about TILLAI NATARAJAR !!!!
The icing on the cake was the lovely KEDARAM at the begining !!!
3hrs and 40 minutes was not enough ... all those present wanted more !!!!
THE MASTER ROCKS as always !!!! PLEASE DO NOT MISS THIS CONCERT WHEN AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD !!!!

I haven't heard such a mAmava paTTAbhirAma before. A true classic of course, showcased by many greats in their concerts. Yet, in this concert, it was treated royally. The maNi maNTapam neraval was sculpted and was inlaid with gems with such care, so lovingly and with absolutely no hurry. The beauty of this MD's kruthi unfolded like a frieze of the grand paTTAbhishEkam scene (Prince Rama Varma was there, and I wondered how Ravi Varma--also from Vanji bhUmi got inspired to paint the scene).
kAmbodhi was a marathon, every mile a work of fine effort and involvement. In fact, even the ever-shining Varadarajan, though he played as he usually does, sounded a bit flat after Sanjay's majestic first round. Soon, his responses followed, enhancing Sanjay's singing as they always do.
The early in the concert virutham was a surprise. When another came at the end, the treat was doubled.
In essence, it was a concert which could have gone on as a four-hour concert, without most in the audience paying any attention to the hour.
A very special concert it certainly was.
