Dear rasikas,
There is an online survey going on here: http://goo.gl/615CC
Please rightaway answer the survey here. It is anonymous and simple!
We want you to answer the survey. Your voice is IMPORTANT.
Here are some qualitative inputs we already got... just a cross-section of opinions:
More professionalism displayed by the artists, sabhas, and rasikas. Artists need a professional union that sets common standards and neotiations with sabhas on minimum facilities and conduct.
This is my wife Padma's ratings. She says you cannot everyone to sing like KVN. Her Grand Pa Semmangudi developed several sishyas. With no worthy Guru's around she says you will have only mediocrity ruling the roost.
Force it on the children - don't give them a choice!
Not diluting it in the name of fusion, experiment, playingn(singing) to the gallery, making it sound like light music etc. IMHO, the major compositions and ragas have to be handled and presented with the required weight(azhuthtam) and the speed. No compromise on that. The voice modulations have to be in accordance. No singing the 'lightly' . Pronunciation has to be correct .
1.Teaching the art to the youngsters. 2.Creating more awareness through media, esp TV, where there are no carnatic music programs. Broadcasting the kutcheris that are held during the music season on TV, so it can be reached worldwide and thus spreading the music. 3. More lecture dems on media, expaining the theory behind the music.
Each & every artiste from every other state has to get an opportunity.
Youngsters should take part in major Carnatic concerts instead of older folks. This will make Carnatic music grow. Youngsters are the leaders of tomorrow.
CM has to evolve and modernize..
Making it more accessible to everyone
Exposing students to the music of the legendary musicians. Making listening to music a compulsory part of the learning.
More time and resources to attend concerts and encourage musicians.
Thank you!

Please do publish some of the answers given to "what to do next". You may select them at random, or give ones you liked most (if you had the time to look into some of them) or whatever.
