Vyasarpadi G Kodandaraman @ pongal nagaswara isai Vizha
Sri Krishna Gana sabha 14 Jan 2013 (Pongal day)

it was a fairly well attended concert. I was hearing Kodandaraman for the first time and his presentation was excellent.

He began with Kuntalavarali(Bhogeendrasaayinam) and he followed it up with Kaantaamani (Paalintuvo- a 'not so commonly heard' kriti of Tyagaraja) with a compact aalaapana. Manirangu raga essay which came next was perfect and Dikshitar's Maamava Pattabhiraama fitted in grandly.

Gamanasrama was chosen for a RTP in Aadi Taala (2 kalai, eduppu @ samam). Pertinent and enjoyable swaraprastaara with a good korvai to top. (was it the only Gamansrama of the season?)

Tukkada songs in Chandrakauns and Peelu were topped up with Lalgudi's Tillana in Kapi.

Kodandaraman seems to be an artist of values and high regard for sampradaaya.
Tavil Vidwans Tiruvallikeni Sekhar and Mambalanm Arulaanandam played exuberantly but with restraint. Their tani for the RTP was a model package.

'Acoustics management' by the sabha was admirable.

The Sabha deserves appreciation for organising the exclusive Nagaswara isai vizha. It is growing in stature every year.

Good to hear such good tidings of sabhAs arranging more nAgaswaram concerts.
Makes up for another thread where poor attendance at a nAgasvaram concert is mentioned.

Nice to know that there was a good turnout. Need some nadaswaram concerts in bengaluru.

That was a very enjoyable concert with all ingredients mixed in the right proportion. The start with Kunthalavarali was refreshing. The three alapanas, Kanthamani, Manirang and Gamanashrama were fairly elaborate bringing out the subtle nuances of the ragas. The post thani pieces were also rather unusual items in a nagaswaram concert. Thanks to KGS for arranging this series,.
