Smt Lavanya Vaidyanathan, disciple of Smt Suguna Varadachari, performed for Sri Guru Guha Gana Saba, Srirangam, in the premises of Sri Raghavendra Mutt, on the 20th Jan 13. She was accompanied on the violin by Sri Lakshminarayanan and on the mrudangam by Sri Vijayaraghvan. The list of items presented is given below.

1. Karunimpa -Varnam – Sahana – Tirvotriyur Thyagayyar
2. Mudhumomu.. – Suryakantham – Thyagarajar
3. Syamasundaranga..- Dhanyasi – Thyagarajar – (After the raga alapana this rare kruti was taken up by Lavanya).
4. Malmaruga Shanmuga - Vasantha – Papanasam Sivan. (Fast paced rendering of this song,
after the sadate Dhanyasi provided an interesting contrast).
5. Ranganayakam bavayeham...- Nayaki – Muthuswami Dhikshadar. (Rendered with great bhakthi bhavam and with accurate ‘kalapramanam’).
6. Satileni guruguha...- Poorvikalyani – Thanjai Ponnaiya. (Earlier Lavanya rendered a beautiful
alpana of Poorvikalyani before taking up this rare kruti).
7. Anupama gunambudhi...- Atana - Thyagarajar.
8. Evarimatta...- Kambhoji – Thyagarajar. (An elaborate raga alapana bringing out the nuances of Kamboji was the highlight of the concert. Thani avardanam by Vijayaraghavan was good).
9. Manthrabalam adaintha alayam..-Hamsanadam – Madurai T Srinivasan
10. Thillana – Behag (on Sri Raghavendrar)
11. Mangalam (on Sri Raghavendrar)

Lavanya was well supported by Lakshminarayanan and Vijayaraghavan.

Lavanya showed excellent grip over layam and her ‘sareeram’ was sweet and perfectly sruti aligned. Her manodarmam is of high order and her grooming is obvious. Here is an artist who is bound to make a mark in the concert circuit in the near future.

Where in Srirangam is this Guru Gana Sabha situated? Is it near the Raghavendra Mutt? What are the activities of this organisation besides arranging concerts? Is it possible to meet someone from this orgn.? There was an organisation called the Trichy Satguru Samajam. Do you know anything about it?

Sri Guru Guha Gana Saba is a 10 year old organisation run by me and three other ladies. We organise monthly music concerts, music quiz competitions, special programs on Dhikshadar, Purandaradasar....We are in Srirangam. The monthly concerts are now held in Sri Raghavendra Mutt premises. We will be happy to meet you RaviSri. No idea about Trichy Satguru Samajam.
