Thanks for the list Ram! He's sung a typical GNB list fitting of the occasion.
Back in the early 1990s rasikas in Sydney contributed funds to Raga Tarangini (a sabha run wholly by women). Raga Tarangini invested the money and it is my understanding that with the interest they are able to run the GNB Day as an annual event.

mohan, Thanks for the info. If I remember correctly, the Raga Tarangini convener mentioned that they have been conducting annual GNB day programs for over 3 decades now.

Mohan - Do you mean to say that song list is similar to that Sri GNB would have sung? If so, I am not sure, because from all acoounts, he rarely, if ever, sang his own compositions...mohan wrote:Thanks for the list Ram! He's sung a typical GNB list fitting of the occasion.

RShankar, the varnam, todi, takka and suddhasaveri compositions were all cornerstones of the GNB repertoire - and pieces he tended to be partial to. Perhaps this is what Mohan alluded to!

and add the purvikalyani to that. GNB often sang a harikambhodi kriti but I am not familiar with rA rA phanishayanAmahesh3 wrote:RShankar, the varnam, todi, takka and suddhasaveri compositions were all cornerstones of the GNB repertoire - and pieces he tended to be partial to.
As rshankar correctly states GNB rarely sang his own kritis (although I have heard his recording of paramakripa in yadukula kambhoji). Nice of Abhishek to include 2 of the maestro's krithis in the tail end of the concert too.

Before the paattu kacheri, there was a pechu kacheri - the convener for 10 - 15 mins and TN Seshagopalan for 20 mins. So why announce program for 6:00 or 6:15 but talk from 6:15 till 7:00? I also found the conveners reference to AR as avan, ivan etc. Perhaps she was familiar/friendly with him (namma aathu kuzhandhai) but that should have in private and not on a concert platform where he was a main performer.
On the kacheri itself, it had dialed down exuberance compared to my earlier encounter. Thoroughly enjoyed it till tani and had to leave then. Thought he would start Arakimpave though. Alapana seemed to have touches of that song.
