Vijay Siva-Sharada Cultural Trust, Secunderabad-30 Jan 2013

Post by revanthv552 »

On the fourth day of the Annual music festival and Thyagaraja Aradhana of the Sharada Cultural Trust, there was a vocal concert by Sri Vijay Siva. He was accompanied on the violin by Kum. Amritha Murali and on the Mridangam by Sri J Vaidyanathan. The concert began right in time and went on for a duration of three hours. There were no breaks in between teh concert as the felicitation was done right before the concert began which gave us a bliss of three hours of chaste and uninterrupted flow of music. The song list is as follows

1. Kapaleeshwaram[Varnam]-Mohanam-Ambi Dikshitar
2. Orajupu-Kannadagowla-Thyagaraja[NS]
3. Raamanatham Bhajeham-Panthuvarali-Dikshitar[RNS]
4. a) Slokam-Gandharvamara-Yadhukula Khamboji
b) Kamakshi[Swarajathi]-Yadhukulakhamboji-Syama Sastry
5. Nadachi Nadachi-Kharaharapriya-Thyagaraja[RS]
6. Kanden Kalitheernthen-Kalyani-Gopala Krishna Bharathi
7. RTP-Charukesi [T]
8. Slokam-Saveri,Behag, Bimplas
9. Yadhava ne ba-Bimplas-Purandaradasa
10. Vaanathin Meedhu-Maand-Ramalinga Swamigal
11. Shantha Ahimsa Murthey-Sindhubhairavi-Mayuram Viswanatha Sastri[?]
12. Na bhumir Na thoyam-Ragamalika-Adi Sankara
13. Mangalam-Sowrastram-Thyagaraja

The brisk Varnam was a beautiful start for the concert. The Varnam just flowed through his voice setting the mood of the concert. This was followed by Kannadagowla composition of Thyagaraja. The sangathis of the songs were very captivating. A brief neraval at the lines "Dheena Rakshaka" followed by rounds of madhyamakala swarams was presented. A detailed Panthuvarali came next. The Alapana was well presented and Amritha Murali's violin deserves a very special mentioning here. The way the raga was presented was simply superb. The evergreen "Ramanatham Bhajeham" of Dikshitar came up next with a very detailed neraval and swarakalpana at the lines "Kumara Guruguha".The Yadukulakhamboji Swarajathi came as a beautiful surprise. It was rendered in a completely unhurried approach giving it the exact feel it deserves. The bhavam of the song was revealed beautifully in the way Vijay Siva sang. A very detailed Kharaharapriya came up next. The alapana was elaborate and had some amazing prayogams. This remains the best part of the concert elevating the entire concert to a whole new level of bliss. The song "Nadachi Nadachi" was presented by Vijay Siva at the same venue a couple of years back as the main piece. A couple of years back, this song was presented repeatedly in Hyderabad. Even then, this did not bore the audience. The way in which the song was presented made the audience understand and appreciate the bhavam of the song. The mridangam support during this part of the concert was simply outstanding. Everything, the vocal music, the violin and the mridangam were at the unbelievable best during this part of the concert. This effect was carried on to the RTP too. The beautiful filler which made its appearance and blew like a breeze in Kalyani hinted us that there was an RTP coming up which was a reason for excitement and of course, we were in for a treat in Charukesi. Charukesi is indeed an enchanting raga. After elaborate rounds of Alapana and thaanam, the pallavi that followed was "Padham Endrum Nambinen Amma! Uma! Ninathu Pankaya" which was set to Tisra Triputa taalam. After detail rounds of swarakalpana in the vilamba kaalam, there were ragamalika swarams in Hamir Kalyani and Kunthalavarali which were followed by beautiful madhyamakala swarams. This was followed by a wonderful thaniavarthanam by Vaidyanathan.

The post main items were also extremely interesting with a perfect combination of popular and not-so-often-heard songs. There was perfect justice to every song that was rendered making the entire concert extremely enjoyable. Firstly, the main reason for the success of this concert lies in the exemplary team consisting of three wonderful musicians. The choice of the songs consisting of a perfect balance of compositions from different composers added to the beauty. The concert was an extremely enjoyable experience. As I mentioned earlier, Sharada Cultural Trust is the all-women organization of the twin cities. I really love the way in which they organize the concerts. The concerts are long and unhurried with no distractions in the form of announcements and speeches. They invite artistes whom we don't get to listen regularly in the twin cities apart from the popular musicians. There are no tickets for the events. They promote young talent with a short duration concert before the main concert of the day. The also issue a Tambura prize every year. Their service to the music circles of Hyderabad is extremely special. The music festival goes on for a week and culminates with a ghoshti ganam of Pancharatna krithis followed by Annadaanam on the last day. The concerts are very well organized and are always a treat. Kudos to the Ladies of Sharada cultural trust, Secunderabad :)
