WHAT A CONCERT!! Really fortunate were those who came to the concert. Mami started with the ever so beautiful kedaragowla varnam, giving a brief sketch of the raga. The wonderful sampradayam of singing thisram in a varnam before singing the madhyamakAlam (2nd speed) is almost extinct today, but mami sang it ever so beautifully (Which she also did in her ragasudha concert during season too).

BuddhamAshrayAmi, again a rarely heard composition was sung with so much of majesty, and quite an apt composition, yesterday being a wednesday. mOhanam, reetigowLai & thodi were sung in all its glory. Esp the reethigowLai, with the niraval and kapanaswarams alternating @ phala lochani and sakala loka janani. Masterful patterns and absolute bliss of a niraval and swarams.

Again this concert, as mami's concerts as always are, had a certain unparalleled sense of gowravam associated with it. No unnecessary aaDambaram, just pristine sangeetham that one would want to take, internalise and savour for a lifetime.....

It was a fabulous concert with three extraordinary neravals sung with lasting impact.

For the mohanam kriti it was at vivarimpa tharama raghuveera anandamu.
For the main, it was at tambura chekoni.

There were 2 lilting bhajans after the main, the first by tulsidas and the second, Hari darshan pyasi, by surdas.
in yamuna kalyani and darbari kanada. Both sounded misra!

The ghatam artist was Sri Harihara Subramanian, at least according to the program sheet.
