Will wait for squims to post - but must say - that it was such a rocker of a concert - eminently satisfying, exhilarating, moving ... simply brilliant.... like my daughter said, "Mami sang like she was possessed...."... absolute bliss, contentment and more...

Ragamalika: Charukeshi, Malayamarutam, Sindhu Bhairavi
9. Tillana - Rageshri - Adi - Lalgudi Jayaraman
10. Pavamana (Mangalam) - Sourastram - Adi - Tyagaraja
It was a cracker of a concert. Maami was in full form. Varali aalapanai was excellent. Kharaharapriya aalaapanai was soothing, with some nice graha bedham phrases.
Was great to listen to rishabhapriya. It's a raagam I really like, but sadly not heard very often in concerts.
Charulatha ma'am accompanied ably as always.
I usually like Sri Poongulam Subramaniam's playing, but was somehow left unimpressed in this particular case. Guruprasad played well. The ghatam sounded very good.
I did think the thani was unnecessarily long. Was bored half way through, though that might be just me.

Re: Vid Neela Ramgopal - today - February 4th
Squims,
Wish we had met
Loved the concert. The youthful energy and imagination in a vocalist whose merits are rooted in classicism and long years of experience sums up the quality of NR's singing.
Her music can be as exciting as the exuberance seen in much younger artistes. Her bold and expert approach to any rarely sung rAgA is admirable.
I try to take in every concert I can of hers when I come to India (though close at hand, I missed one recently. Couldn't help it, that's all
This concert was no exception to her well-constructed, finely detailed performances.
Starting from the varNam and nATTai kruti, her singing spoke of her mastery over rAgAs and lyrics.
Raga bhAvA is brought out at its best in her music.
The quality of her youthfulness in singing was brought out in pAlaya sadA.
KharaharapriyA was a delight.
Charulatha's playing is very pleasing, no doubt. She gives her best in every concert.
I like Pungulam's playing usually, but something was missing that day, and yes, the thani was too long. Guruprasad was very good, as always.

Squims - #7 should be 'nIrada sama nIla kRshNA' (i.e., kRshNA, whose blue complexion is like that of a cloud), and not 'nIraja sama' (nIraja = lotus)

Nice list. Looks like a wonderful concert. Rarely does one sing rishabhapriya. My fav is MLV's koteeswara iyer's gana naya desika. A beautiful raga indeed.

@rshankar, corrected now.

@Arasi ma'am, I wish we'd met too! I did look out for familiar faces. While I haven't met you personally, I do know how you look, but couldn't spot you! I might be going on Saturday next. Will you be there?

Squims,
It's not the first time that I have missed meeting you! Late this year or in the new year, hopefully
Wonder how many have heard Neela's CD of the mELakartA rAgA songs by different composers. It's something worth listening to. She's a pro, as the expression goes in our family.
