Re: Suryaprakash@Aastika samAjam(alwarpet) on Feb 09th,2013
It was an extremely satisfying concert with solid manodharmam and brilliant individual performances from all 4. Few highlights
+ dharmavati as a prathi sub main was sung beautifully after a round of real flashy kamAs . Particularly noticed suryaprakash singing few mandara stayi sangathis in dharmavati, it was rare and he was really good.
+ Huseni was the pick ,there are few karaikurichi arunAchalam huseni's floating in internet. Suryaprakash sang with a lot of fast karaikurichi nayanam like touches and there was real good manOdharamam in swaras.
+ kapinarayani was lovely. Despite having heard many kapinarayani of his , there was a definitely on spot manodharmam that I heard for the first time. Neraval and swaras was lovely with real brilliant returns and rolling fast fingers of bhoopathi was exhilirating and really well sung..
+ The pick of the day was indeed RTP in subhapantuvarali in kanda jati triputa . With voice getting more and more pliable , the rAga alapana of subhapantuvarAli was very deep throated and with a touch of intricate sedateness added lot of sowkhyam.TAnam in both speeds had a lot of touch of TNS like subhapantuvarAli sangathis. The pallavi line "tAmadam tAgadaiyyA murugaiyyA yemai kAkka" was nice and swaras came out exceptionally well. In particular there was a lot of onspot creativity in swara ragamAliga . For eg,When say nalinakanthi was sung with violin return, the note mA was used an anchor to touch briefly nalinAkanthi again then with the same anchor note of mA he went with a detailed behAg swaras. If I am right then he went with ni as an anchor , he went from say hamsAnandi briefly and then to vAsanthi. Overall for the detailed TRS'que pallavi alone the concert was worth it.
+ Tukkadas did sustain the same pep, O rAma nee nAmam as a late drop surprised me and I particularly liked his own thillAna in suddasArang.I am not a big fan of bansivAlE in bhoop.
+ Nagai sriram was superb, he has such a blotting paper like grasp. For every long suryaprakash vocal sangathis , his violin return was precise and captured the high manodharma quotient of suryaprakash .For dharmavati , he gave a contrast reply, whereas for subhapantuvarali he followed the vocal sangathis. What was most impressive was sriram's bowing strength that went well with the power of suryaprakash vocal chords
+ bhoopathy played with extraordinary creativity. For the first few songs the mrudangam shruthi was not right, but post kamas his nadham and tempo really gave all of us a great experience
+ srirangam kannan in morsing -played very well especially during pallavi .
- There was a very noticable goof up in trikalam between vocalist and mrudangist. The vocalist repeated twice to correct it.SAveri varnam volume was high for both vocal and violin and both of them adjusted ,post varnam .
Overall , with high charge on manodharmam - it was an excellent concert.

Rajesh,
I suppose it's also called BhUp (for bhUpAli?) which is akin to mOhanam.
The Swathi Tirunal site gives the rAgA as mOhanam.

Yes arasi. BhUpAli or BhUp is hindustani version of mohanam. Incidentally when you hear bansivAlE in BhUp(the earliest I heard was maharajapuram santhanam singing), you get shades of mohanakalyAni as well as mohanam.arasi wrote:Rajesh,
