Hello,
I came upon this site while searching for the lyrics for the above song. I've been browsing some and I found this site to be an excellent resouce for carnatic music. keep up the great work.

I am looking for lyrics for vinda mamalar kondu niraiduneer.. my tamil is rusty and words may be incorrect. If any of you know this song, and if you happen to know the meaning, I appreciate a posting.

Thank you..
Lakshmi.

I'm sorry to say that i do not know. I know the song.. but not sure if words are accurate (actually quite sure it is not).

vinda ma malar kondu niraiduneer
andar nayakar ponnadi soozh min kai??
pandu neer saidha paavam paraindidum
vandu ser pozhil vAnmiyur Eshane

Adhiyum aranai ayanmaar rUmai
pAdhi penn iruvaya paramanenru
Odhi Ul kuzhainde etravaLalavar
vadai seer pozhil vAnmiyur EeshanE

Porulum sutramum poimaiyum vitrunee
arulmaan.. maatri maya karutthu
Aruluma .. Atri Ayindrulum
marula.. idum vAnmiyur EeshanE

I find I remember less and less as i write

thanks for trying.

lakshmi,
All I can guess is that this is in praise of the Isan in tiruvAnmiyUr (chennai). marunDIswaran? Once we get the words in order, we can go for the meaning...

makes sense.. I think you are right about the marundeeshwarar temple in thiruvanmiyur.

I hail from that area and used to spend hours sitting under a tree within the temple walls. can still remember the smell and sound of bats and the oil used for the lamps.

Yes,it is wonderful place to be in,spacious, with those pillars and carvings, there is a temple dedicated to ThyAgarAja swAmy inside and there used to be concerts on Mondays of kArthika by the students or staff of KalAkshetra(which is nearby)

I studied in Kalakshetra school (Besant Arundale) myself. but never really learnt music formally... really unfortunate. Most of what i know is imbibed from my teachers and listening to stalwarts. I remember going to the temple every sat morning as part of school bhajans.

From the words put down by you, I think, wth my limited knowledge, that this may be a Thevaram. Have you searched the sites that contain Thevaram lyrics?

This is the first stanza in the padigam by appar (aka tirunAvukkarasar). 5th tirumuRai Sthalam #82 tiruvAnmiyUr.

It means "if you take freshly blossomed flowers and worship the feet of the Lord of the celestials who dwells in tiruvAnmiyUr which is surrounded by the orchards frequented by the bees, all your past sins will vanish"
