Bombay Jayasree - kapaali temple- 8.4.13

Post by Meera »

Bombay Jayasree
H.N.Baskar
Manoj Siva
Anirudh Atreya

An excellent concert in spite of a slightly impaired throat that sounded a little bit harsh compared to her usual velvety voice.

Bombay Jayasree is one artist who sees the god as omnipresent and doesn't want to limit him into any one form. Her singing of 'endhukeu bedhala' as main in a siva temple justifies this.

Another surprise was the RTP in the rarely heard Ranjini with raagamalika svarams in behaag, sivaranjani and desh.excellent rendition.

She sang the following.

1.jaya jaya swamin - naatai
2.karunaanidhiye thaaye - bowli
3.subhramanyena - sudhdha dhanyaasi - (r,s)
4.endhukubedhdhala - sankaraabharanam - ( r,n @ vedha sastra,s,t)
5.RTP - ranjini
6.koovi azhaithaal - valaji
7.thillaana - raagesri
8.mangalam

Haven't heard anyone sing 'karuNA nidhiyE thAyE' in a long while. One of my favorites. She would have sung it with a lot of feeling.

4: enduku peddala valamu
5: ranjani

She also sang mAyamma in Ahiri.

I enjoyed her singing esp.the RTP with its colorful rAgamAlika.

Good to hear from you, Ganeshkanth!
Hope you are going to concerts often and will share them with us whenever you can. Are you writing poems too?

CRama,
Thanks for all your reviews and reports. They are well appreciated, though many don't say it on the forum!

Crama & Arasi thanks for your kind words.

I was in a bit of despondency sort of " ennatha ezhudhi enna kiLichOm!".

Carnatricks,I felt BJ has slightly changed her style.I don't know to express that in the queen's language. It was like "konjam adhattalaa paadina maadhiri irundhudhu" .There were minor misses here and there esp.during AlApanai of "shudhdha dhanyAsi and of course in the svaram singing. But these were really very minor. As I have written I enjoyed the entire concert in a temple ambiance.

Oh wow! I should listen to her some time, then! I like music which carries some force. :)

Think it was more like adhattufying a kai kuzhandai so you may not have missed much.

I was listening to Margazhi Raagam and it sounds like BJ's voice has slightly changed over the years. It does not sound as velvety as what it used to be, but I am not complaining. The devotion with which she sings and her virtuosity cannot be beat and I continue to be her big fan. BTW, forgive me for not knowing the right technical terms, but are there different ways of singing Sudha dhanyaasi? I have heard a recorded version of Subramanyena by BJ and the way she sings the gandharam on the avarohanam is different from say MLV singing Azhaga azhaga. Sorry, i dont know the right term for the swaram, but i am hoping someone understands my question! which is the correct way to sing this raagam?
