MUDHRA'S WEEKLY WEBCAST-DR.PALGHAT R RAMPRASAD
The above concert was webcast through paalamtv by MUDHRA. I could listen only the second half. I had not listened to this vidwan earlier. I heard that he is grandson of Palghat Mani Iyer and we had discussions about this vidwan in this forum some time back. The main song was Venkatasaila Vihara in Hameerkalyani. He gave an elaborate and top notch alapana of the ragam and neraval and elaborate swarams which were very intelligently crafted. After the thani, Mukhari was taken up for RTP. I know many of our rasikas long for RTP in Mukhari. This is the first time I also heard RTP in Mukhari. The pallavi was in Tisra Jhampa Talam Khanda nadai. The RTP was executed well, with all the necessary details like Trikalam , ragamalika swaram etc. The raga alapana was too short- 2 minutes which was disappointing, but he made it up in tanam. He sang very well. Surprised to see that he is not featured in Chennai quite often. The webcast continued till 9.30pm. RK Sreeramkumar Tanjore Murugabhoopathy and Trichy Krishnaswami(Ghatam) played their role competently.
The webcast was of good quality, without interruptions. Thanks to MUDHRA for this gesture.

You can edit your first post . He is Palghat R Ramprasad (you can remove the initials tv , as that refers to another vidwan)

Is there any chance someone recorded the live telecast? Very eager to listen to a hamirkalyani main and Mukhari RTP...

I would like to listen to those two pieces as well. All my pontifications that there is 'no such thing as live (only) anymore' in another thread is for naught, paalamtv says the concert can only be watched live!!

Is Sri Ramaprasad still based in the US? He was working on his PhD some years ago.
That would explain his general absence from the Chennai circuit.
VK, such a pity that this concert is not available for viewing anymore

Mahavishnu and CRama,
Ramprasad has been back in Chennai after finishing his Doctorate for about 2 years, with his time swallowed mostly by work. His presence on the circuit will be more visible soon, I hope.
I tried recording the live webcast to no avail. A few notable highlights from the concert: Rama Nannu Brovara in HariKamboji (R N S), Hiranmayeem in Lalitha (R N S), a very lively Cala Kalla Ladu in Arabhi with lovely swaras, a serene Mamava Minakshi in Varali (R N S) and Cenjurutti thillana.
The short RTP was a surprise, but I enjoy Mukhari in whatever form. The pallavi was from Arivar yaar unnai and is available in the 10 minute promotional video that can be accessed here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7a3duAq3p4.
I have posted two entire concerts of his (recorded with a mobile phone, with his consent, of course!) as separate 'uruppadis' from the 2011 December season on YouTube here https://www.youtube.com/user/PVSaranyan (begada, abhogi, ranjani, saveri, vasanta, kalyani, dwijavanti, yamuna kalyani, asaveri, mandari, varali, kedara gowlai, etc.)
