R. Suryaprakash at Cleveland Festival

Post by hamirkalyani123 »

Kum. Amritha Murali (violin)
Toronto Sri B. Gowrishankar (mridangam)
Sri Karthik Venkataraman of Toronto (kanjira)

Reetigoula – Tatwamariya tarama
Purvikalyani – Kasi visalakshi
Devagandhari – Seethavara (Tyagaraja)
Kannadagowla – Orachoopu choochedi, Tyagaraja
Kambhoji – Sri Subrahmanyaya Namaste, Dikshitar
RTP – Brain child of Sri Mannargudi Easwaran who was sitting in the front row - Raga Abhogi, (Ragamalika – Hamsadwani, Behag, Sindhubhairavi)
Structure of pallavi is Chatusra Nadai – Poorvangam, and Thisra Nadai – Uttarangam
Javali – Swati thirunal in Kalyani
Madurai Mani Iyer’s note

Wonderfully planned concert overall

More or less I was listening to him first time. He showed glimpses of his Paramaguru in Pallavi "Sabhapatiki Vere Daivamu" rendering to whom paid his humble respects before beginning the RTP. Excellent accompaniment by Amrita Murali and other percussionists as well.

VVSundaram looked very happy since Suryaprakash was on dot in completing the concert in exactly 2 hrs time frame allotted to him, which normally does not happen and I do see VVS standing there and giving directions to artistes all the time since they usually exceed their time.

Sorry Arasi I beat you into this before you see you get your video, but only in this ofcourse and not in your more detailed technical reviews...

Hamirkalyani,
I am glad you came up with the review because I do not have the technical knowledge to write reviews at all. I do comment on concerts, and that's about it.
Cleveland festival energizes me and I like to share my enjoyment of it with others, and end up doing a running commentary of it. The main reason is the children who do so well, I think.

I am happy on two accounts: that Surya gave such a good concert, with a few not often heard songs (kASi viSalAkshi, sItA vara). Happy that VVS was happy about the concert ending right on time ;)

The pallavi line is: sab(h)Apathikku vERu daivam samAnamAgumA? I'm also happy that he had enough time to sing a pallavi this time.
The other song is orajUpu jUchEdi nyAyamA.

Amrutha Murali is another musician whose violin playing and vocal music I'm waiting to listen to.

u r welome rajeshnat. Watchout for more as I listen into the ondemand package of cleveland thanks to icarnatic. I did listen to R. Thyagarajan, but forgot the complete list. I know they introduced N. Ramani's latest Tillana (forgot even the raga name) there. N. Ramani sir was supposed to have traveled but dropped out due to health reasons I believe.

More soon...

Hi Hamirkalyani123,

Thanks for posting the review... Just one minor correction, I believe the second song is Vishalakshi Vishveshi in Pantuvarali, not Kasi Vishalakshi in Poorvikalyani. Here is a Youtube link to the song he sang: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKDhmjOuR9k

Thanks for the review. I heard/watched this concert LIVE (thanks to iCarnatic) and it was indeed an excellent concert. The second song was Visalakshi in Pantuvarali as mentioned by Carnatic2013 above. I enjoyed the glorious Kambhoji as well as the RTP.
