I saw a good bit of this concert by Rithvik Raja and team. I liked it.

I was especially impressed with the young mridangist, Tanjore Praveen Kumar. He was the star of the show and find of the year for me. His playing showed the sensitivity of a seasoned veteran; his strokes were fluent, his nadham was good, his tirmanams were succinct and kannakku was appropriate for every context. I googled him and realized that he is the grandson of Sri Tanjore Upendran and student of Guruvayoor Dorai. The other young percussionists Anirudh Athreya and Chandrasekara Sarma matched Praveen very well.

And the violinist M.Vijay (disciple of Sri Varadarajan) was quite good too, but sounded a bit hesitant at times. My best wishes and words of encouragement to the young artistes. Please keep up all the hard work.

yes praveen kumar is one of the more sensitive and versatile mridangists from the younger crop. sanjay and tmk have started trying these younger guys in their concerts. arjun ganesh plays for sanjay and praveen kumar for tmk regularly. ranjani gayathri and bj also seem to have started having these young guys accompany them, especially m rajiv who has played for 3 out of these 4 musicians. nice to see that the yougner guys are given opportunities. the one thing that strikes me about this kutcheri in particular is that rithvik and his team seem in sync with each other and their musicial sensitivities match which is wonderful to see. rithvik seems to sing most of his concerts with vijay and praveen i hear so there is an understanding there. though it was only a 1 hour concert i enjoyed it. especially the pace of the varnam and the rendering of the swarajathi - not to forget the thillaana

Mahavishunu,

I saw the concert too. Yes the mridangist is very good. I sincerely hope the younger generation mridangist practice sitting in the traditional way and not resort to how senior artists sit. The exception too the rule is Shri UKS. I have never seen him sit with his left leg on the floor.

Just an observation
