Why doesn't this great artiste tour the US? Why are we left with artistes who show off their pottu and podavai?

THEY have visited N.A. several times esp. CLEVELAND. REST OF THE PLACES it shows the general lack of interest in serious good music in those places. VKV

Nice concert, and the stage was set up well to separate Smt.Rama Ravi's chair from platform, so that the height difference between the artists was minimal....Its a long time since Melbourne hosted a concert from a senior artist who have seen many generations! Great experience!

sreebeecane asked:
There is this hierarchy of music rasikas:
0) Those who go to keyboard and/or Isai Payanam type of concerts.
1) Those who go for abhangs, Madu Meiikum Kanne and the Blind Monkey Song.
2) Those who go for popular musicians.
3) Those who go for in-your-face music.
4) Those who go for introspective/contemplative music, be it vocal or instrumental.
5) Older folks who cannot travel to sabhas and so are content to listen to recorded music of Madurai Mani Iyer, Brinda-Mukta, Ramnad Krishnan, Semmangudi, etc.
When Parassala Ponnammal came to San Diego 4 years back, there were less than 80 persons in the hall to listen to her. But the hall was filled to capacity and beyond when a certain podavai artist performed the next day.
Off the top of my head, here are some artists who won't get many takers despite delivering consistently great performances:
Parassala Ponnammal
R Vedavalli
Suguna Varadachari
Suguna Purushothaman
Seetha Rajan
Seetha Narayanan
Ritha Rajan
Rama Ravi.
And among men,
Rudrapatnam Brothers
Malladi Suri Babu
Tadepalli Lokanadha Sarma.
It requires a whole lot of musical maturity for a rasika to understand and appreciate the understated elegance and musical eloquence of certain artists. Why doesn't this great artiste tour the US? Why are we left with artistes who show off their pottu and podavai?
