It was yet another masterly concert by Dr K J Yesudas.. Started 3 mins well before time (as compared to another recent young guns concert !) and went on till 9.30.

Full house (is my estimate correct - the pendal accomodates 4000+ people ?) and a standing ovation was the hallmark of the concert.

PBS has sung quite a few kannada songs .Is pbs known to sing this song. Is there any connection with PBS and this song , please explain?

Today's Times of India has a mention about this concert:

"Carnatic vocalist KJ Yesudas enthrals music lovers with his 41st performance at Rama Seva Mandali in Fort High School grounds on Monday. The veteran playback singer has been performing at the festival every year since 1972; he has given it a miss only once"

41 years !!!

KJY brought out one of his experience of interacting with audience in one of his Chennai concert. Once PBS ( who was a regular audience to his concerts) asked him to sing Suvarnangi and on stage KJY replied that he had not learnt either the raga / a krithi in that raga. he promised to learn and sing in his next concert.


In his next concert, KJY was looking forward for PBS.. however he could not recognise his presence there. KJY continued to sing the alapana. Once it was over , during the ovation.... PBS walked in into the hall. KJY remarked that he was late and PBS had just missed listening to his request.

PBS in reply said, that KJY had just started the alapana, and he could recognise it as Suvarnangi.. He did not want to miss any moment of it. Listened to it from outside and he did not miss anything.

However in this concert, KJY wanted to dedicate this song once again to his good old friend PBS who is no more.
