Our forumite Sam Swaminathan (New Zealand) is no more
It is with great sadness and profound grief that I am sharing the news that our forumite, Sam Swaminathan, has attained the lotus feed of the lord earlier today. Sam (brother of Mannargudi Easwaran) is my Chitappa and a great rasika of carnatic music. May his soul rest in peace.

Oh, what terrible news. Condolences to you, to Easwaran sir, to all family and friends --- and to all rasikas forumites, for he truly belonged to this family too, and gave so much here.
So sad.

Re: Our forumite Sam Swaminathan (New Zealand) is no more
Shocking news, indeed!
Krishnaprakash,
I have been wondering about Sam's health and have been asking around the past several months. When I saw MAE in Bengaluru in February, I asked him then and he said Sam was doing well, with a smile on his face.
MV who reported the NZ Music festival last week wrote that Sam couldn't make it to the festival and was missed. I didn't realize that he was that seriously ill after the surgery. What a shame!
He's missed by us all here at Rasikas.org. A rasikA coming from an illustrious musical tradition is no longer around
Heartfelt condolences to your family--to Sam's wife and children, MAE and all the rest of you in the family.

He will be sorely missed!! May his soul RIP, and may God grant his family (including this oline family of his) the strength to deal with this loss. He will be sorely missed, especially his ability to look at the bright side of everything and his admirable simplicity.
However, I have to say that the news is hardly shocking or unexpected, given the primary diagnosis - this concern has been sitting heavily with me ever since he announced the problem, and the procedure he'd undergone, given the awful prognosis associated with this condition! All I can hope for is that the end was relatively pain-free, and blessedly quick.

Condolences to the family!! Although I knew that he had a serious ailment, and he hed asked for some medical references and second opinions which I had suggested I had assumed he was on the road to recovery. I enjoyed --like all our forumites--- his thoughtful contributions.
We are all poorer by the loss of a true rasika.

Mahavishnu - thank you for posting the photograph. This photograph was taken during Appa's Shastiabthapoorthi when Sam Chitappa gave a short violin concert in the evening.

Thank you Mahavishnu for that pic. I can't seem to download it to put up on NZCMS page-can you help. Last June, he was eagerly looking forward to writing the reviews for SU12 here but he barely made it to the concerts-thats when he was officially diagnosed. After Gayathri Venkat's concert, he gave a concert summary speech highlighting various aspects of the evening. When it came to MA Easwaran, he said 'I'm just proud to be his brother' His last speech for NZCMS was on 7/4/13 during our Thyagaraja Aradhana. The Aradhana was his own thing-he was on email/phone to people getting them together for practices etc. This year, we were grateful he could attend. He spoke for a while and said 'Please never give this up ever' For SU13, he said "If I could I would be there from 31/5 evening to 3/6 evening, but look at me now' This was sometime in May and was the last conversation I had with him. May his soul RIP

What a sad news , he was a very nice gentleman . Had good memories when we travelled back from NSG home after a concert of Tanjore sankara iyer. He was always open minded in knowing more about musicians and music . A very simple man , he was a CFO for a reputed company in NZ .
Our forum will miss u sir .Condolences to his family.
