Hindola ninne nammi ("Krishnarajendra") composer?
Can anyone tell me who the composer of the Varnam in Hindola ninne nammi yunnanura is?
The mudra appearing is "krishnarajendra"
I would also be grateful if you can give a link to a rendition of this Varnam. I have been trying to get my hands on one, but all efforts have failed. I can't even find a mention of this Varnam on the internet.

Nalvadi Shri Krishna Rajendra must refer to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krishna_Raja_Wadiyar_IV and is not a composers mudra, I think. The name also appears in the maathe varnam in Khamas, by Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavathar.

Thought so .. but that spoils the whole varnam for me
Loosely translated, the varnam means "I trust in you, you are my mother, listen to my pleadings and save me, brave Sri Nalvadi Krishna Rajendra, you are an ocean of compassion, save me".
This comes under what Thyagaraja would have called nara stuti!

Much better than the varNams that go 'nArimaNi ninnE kOriyunnadi rA...' - and there are tons of thoseShrutiLaya wrote:Thought so .. but that spoils the whole varnam for me![]()

In this respect, I think Sri HKMB was very ingenious - he was a past master at keeping his benefactor happy without indulging in outright 'nara stuti', by asking the blessings of the divine being (harikESa kumAra, or harikESa pura vAsa, or harikESa bhAmini, etc.) to protect his benefactor, the king (his khamAs varNam is a great example of that). But, I am certain it served as well as a plain narastuti, and must have pleased the patron no end.

The king of Nara-stutis would be India's national anthem, according to one interpretation that Jana Gana Mana was a song composed and sung originally as tribute and prayer composed by Rabindranath Tagore to the British emperor in 1911 during his visit to India. It was later adopted in a truncated form as the Indian national anthem. Tagore relinquished his knighthood in 1919 and later refuted in 1939 that his composition had been intended as a tribute to the king.

Actually, no, I have nothing against sRngaara based varnams or padams (so long as they're not explicitly glorifying some patron like Vazeer Hamir!) .. But yes, HKMB's technique is a perfect compromise, keeps the patron happy and the composition timeless ..
Re the business of Tagore and the national anthem, as I understand it, Tagore has vehemently denied it ..
