I heard that it was an interesting programme. A rasikas who attended mentioned one question that Ravikiran asked at the outset which spun off discussions.

" in the last three months which was the concert that you attended that you would classify as a bad concert?" the answers from the audience were written down on a board , solutions discussed and so on.

This I guess, was just one of the points. There were several other interesting threads that were followed.

Fantastic ideas keep emerging from Ranjani fine arts. Great.

People from RFA can give the various threads on which discussions took place. Members of this forum too can place their views, although we have not attended.

Thanks, KSSR ji....

Here is a link to the write up : http://www.ranjanifinearts.org/index.ph ... &Itemid=85

Some photos : you can actually see the reasons as alluded by KSSR in one of the photos of the white board : https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/1081 ... 1224387409

City plus correspondent was at the venue and here is his review : http://cityplus.jagran.com/city-buzz/ta ... 66026.html
In my view, the broad 3 themes he covered to elaborate "The art of listening to classical music".....Ravikiran can comment if this is ok

1. Listening has the baggage ( !! ) of memory ....we never are able to appreciate music just "as it is" . So, usage of adjectives is very subjective : eg...an "elaborate" shankarAbharana rAga or a "brisk" tOdi. Hence, art of listening starts from appreciating a flower just as it is and not draw comparisons in one's own mind
2. Understanding the kutcheri format is the next key thing to appreciate classical music - this is where he explained varna to thillana, the various forms of compositions, rAga, nereval, tAna, pallavi, et al. Well, the demo was simply pristine ...
3. Understand composers, the emotions behind the songs helps appreciate classical music further..again, the demo of songs of different composers enthralled the audience.

He kept the session very interactive ( 2.5 hours !! )...big thanks to the rasikAs too...they participated actively.
