Sankaranarayanan and his team were in excellent form. It was a great musical treat for the audience at Ottawa.

I specially enjoyed the short Behag RTP. The Pallavi line was:
“Ananda naTanam AdinAr, thAm thi thAm thai thithai ena”
The excursion to Revathi and Kapi were delightful. Special mention to the
Superb innovative support by ViTTal.
The keeravAni main was also superb.

Sankaranarayanans’s voice soars with ease and when he holds the tAra shadjam or pancamam the hall reverberates with a divine melody since the acoustics are simply superb. He is indeed the flag-bearer of the SSI school of music and has a great future.

Gowrishankar and Karthik provided an adequate Laya support..

The concert was dedicated to the swargIya Lalgudi Jayaraman.

Glad to hear that you had good music in Ottawa last evening.

V.Sankaranarayan is a very talented young man who seems to be dedicated to his music in spite of his busy work schedule. He comes from a family of rasikAs--his father in particular (who also happens to be a scholar in CM). Sankar also has a sweet and supportive wife.

You mention SSI school. He is also a student of TRS and Gnanaskandan as far as I can remember.

You and I have heard him in the Cleveland Festival's streaming, two years in a row. I have been to several of his season concerts in Chennai. I agree with you that he's one of the new set of vocalists to watch for.

The song list with the Behag RTP is appealing. Quite a few numbers are from Sanjay's repertoire, I would say.

Swathi's composition as I hear is: sAdhu tadA nija gAmini. I'm sure what you heard should also make sense (since your knowledge of sanskrit is profound).

Let's not forget--Sankar is a Rasikas.org member. Either he or the Ottawa organizers please post a song or two for us to listen to!

Vittal R would have been very good too.

His pronunciation of sAhityam is impeccable. Rasikas should extend full support to him and we are
Proud to have him at this Forum. Vittal is a Gem and he is lucky to have him for his mentor.

Niri Niri is a favourite of KVN. It is listed as by Tirukkokarnam Subbarama Bhagavatar in the famous dhyanam/meditation LP
(Nonesuch Records H 72018). I think it is authentic?

CML - Thank you! A lovely list - must have been a very nice concert. Small correction - the varNam is "innam yen manam"! The pUrvI tillAnA is also a favorite of many dancers, given its rhythmic intricacies (and some say it is actually a drupad - whatever that means), and I have heard Venkataramana Bhagavathar as the composer.

On a lighter note, it appears that the vocalist was asking two questions - 1) innam yen manam arindiDAmal irundiDal nyAyamA? (is it appropriate for you to not yet understand my feelings?) and 2) innamum sandEhapaDalAmA? (can you doubt me, even now?) - And I guess your answers are - 1) "ini umakkum yemakkum (iSaiyinAl) iSaianda poruttam yenna poruttamO!" and 2) "no doubts at all - you have arrived!"
