Re: BANGALORE RASIKAS MEET
Well I know Dr Sowmya has a PhD for redesigning mridangam so that sruti and tonality will survive inclement weather.
Our young Raghav here has done one better by adding a few AA batteries to a conventional mridangam!
Sorry the google drive photo is too low-res to reveal it.

Thank you Sri V.Kailasam.
I could see and listen to the wonderful music of Neela mami, Aishwarya and Soundarya and others on the You Tube. The songs were very nice and I enjoyed listening to them. Thanks again. The Rasika Meet seems to have brought so many people who love music together. The You Tube brought everybody to us here.

Re: BANGALORE RASIKAS MEET
Thank you all for the videos and photos. I enjoyed hearing Sumitra Nitin singing arasi's bEhAg composition with some very interesting twists. Hey Govinda Hey Gopala was also sung with great dedication by Aishwarya and Saundarya. Dr. Manjunath's kalyANi - particularly the kAlapramANam - was scintillating. I will watch the longer video vkailasam uploaded later. Kudos to all of you for attending, singing, and reporting with such gusto!

Re: BANGALORE RASIKAS MEET
Hey Cienu!! Great job--I envy the rasikas who could attend especially because had it been held a couple of weeks later I would have been able to participate--awshucks!! Always thinking of myself!!!
Arasi's behag composition is excellent--Had I not known I would have sworn it was a Dasar nama--not that you are a slouch when it comes to compositions in Tamil--ofcourse every composition is only as good as the singer!! Sumi with her poise and maturity has
sung the piece beautifully!!
Cienu:
Aishwarya has made tremendous strides since I last heard her 2 years ago--the pitch-perfect rendering with the Bhava leads me to believe she has captured the essence of her Great GrandMa's music--Ofcourse I know for a fact how much Radha has imparted despite her own infirmity. Please convey my appreciation to Aishwarya and your Mom. Soundarya too is not lagging behind too far. Most of all CIENU you need to be congratulated for for your single-handed herculean efforts despite the odds towards keeping the legacy aloft. May God give you the strength and mental stamina to continue the good work you have been doing.
Cienu: I have a request to make of your mother. As you may have seen from the Forum that my father's birth centenary is being celebrated on August 4@ KGS in Mambalam. Can you request your Mom to record a few words on behalf of your Patti and Thatha which I will read at the function. Afterall nobody has known my father longer than your Mom---some funny anecdote or story--like your Thatha she has a treasure trove of stories/anecdotes.
I WOULD LIKE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY TO COME(I recognize the difficulties) for the function if you can.
Congrats on a well-organised homely and hospitable event for the Rasikas.

Re: BANGALORE RASIKAS MEET
MKR,
You are so right--every composition is as good as the singer! Sumitra really gets into the mood of the song and sings it, that 'partner' of mine!
Thanks for thinking it was a dAsara pada. Great compliment, indeed!
Pattamma,
Thanks for your kind words too. This song must be at least twenty years old? In case you are not aware of it, the songs come with tunes to me. I remember feeling happy when in the line 'magnarAgi ADuva cheluva kANIrE, 'magnarAgi', in the children being immersed in play came out well, and in the next line: cheNDAgi kuNiva kuthUhala, the upper notes suggested the toss of the ball high in the air! Of course, you realize all this later, after the song is born. Sumitra sang a couple of sangathis which I didn't think of. Her dear grandmother's inspiration and thought went into them. I can't but think of her grandmother when I hear good things about these songs. She was always appreciative of my compositions in a child-like way. Of course, "namma kuDumbathup peN (!), a long-lost niece", added to the fact that she gave of her love freely, to one and all.
In turn, I'm mighty proud of Sumitra. That she's learning from Neela Ramgopal makes me feel even happier.
Bilahari,
Thanks to you too, for thinking that the song sounded good!

Re: BANGALORE RASIKAS MEET
Cienu,
It was nice of you to bring "makkaLa ATava" to rasikAs which missed Nageswaran's collection.
Your girls did very well--I'm not surprised. Aishwarya's handling of varALi (kA vA vA) was impressive.
Neela's fine singing was unfortunately drowned in the loud sruti. What filtered through was, as expected, her high class stuff.

Re: BANGALORE RASIKAS MEET
Dear All,
Thank you so much for your kind wishes. A special thanks for the Rasikas who made it for the meeting and for the many rasikas whose thoughts were in Bangalore ! It was indeed a pleasure for me & Geetha to host the Rasikas meet. I am uploading a composition sung by Neela Mami (though truncated - the audio is much better) and Smt Lalita (wife of Sri GBL).

It is great to listen to all the singers including Aishwarya, Saundarya, V_S Manjunath, Smt. Lalitha, Neela Mami etc.
RaghavT, good work there accompanying Smt. Lalitha in the second link above. This is the kind of setting where it is easy to discern what playing to the song means. Well done.
