TNS KRISHNA AT PALLAVI DARBAR-9/8/13

Post by CRama »

TNS.Krishna- Vocal
Nagai Sriram- Violin
Ramesh-Mridangam

TNS Krishna presented a fitting finale to the Pallavi Darbar 2013. He started the concert with a slokam Mandasmitha Mukhambujam in the ragam Sankarabharanam. Later we could know that this was also part of the RTP. He then presented a wholesome alapana of raga Durbar for 5 minutes. After a superb return in violin by Nagai Sriram, then came the ragam Thodi followed by Kalyani and Sankarabharanam ( I think Sankarabharanam was rendered by srutibhedam. Knowledgeable rasikas may confirm). The entire raga exercise took 20 minutes- complete justification for each ragam taken up. This was followed by Thanam in all the ragams. Yes. The evergreen ragamalika pallavi which was the trendsetter for many ragamalika pallavis to follow was taken up in Khanda Triputa talam 4 kalai- Atheetha eduppu. But the pallavi was intelligently modified as Sankarabharananai Azhaithodi vaadi Kalyani PALLAVI Darbarukku. Krishna deserves kudos for including the theme of the concert in the pallavi. He did elaborate neraval and anulomam trilomam. After trikalam, I think he presented the pallavi with variation of speed in poorvangam and utharangam. This was demonstrated by Trichy Venkataraman Sir in his lec dem. Krishna has presented this aspect in his pallavi exploration. Kalpana swaras were sung in all the ragas. His glide from one raga to other was effortless. It was a very scholarly presentation of pallavi. Nagai Sriram gave good support in the violin. His raga essays were very sweet and apt and Ramesh also lifted the concert to a higher level.

Krishna definitely made his father proud.

PulikkuTTi's pallavi was fit for the durbAr, then!

Nagai Sriram is an asset as an accompanist.
I haven't heard Ramesh play. Does he go merely by that name? No initials or sir name?

Arasi, this would be Sri R. Ramesh a senior disciple of Sri Karaikudi Mani.
Just so you can put a face to the name, here is a short video of him accompanying Sri Ramani. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C41ktKxq3o0

Ramesh is an excellent mridangist, who plays very much in the style of his guru Sri KRM. He has actively been on the CM stage since the '80s, but perhaps a little bit less so in recent years.

Thanks, Mahavishnu (Ramesh), for the clip. He is R. Ramesh, the clip says. Will watch out for him.
Of course, I've missed him. The eighties scene is non-existent for me since we started our annual trip to India only from the mid-nineties.
