Karnataka Vaibhava 2013.

Post by sirsub11 »

For some strange reason, perhaps a technical glitch, last year's programme (2012) of Karnataka Vaibhava, posted by kssr, has found its way here along with the accompanying trail. To avoid counfusion, this year's Karnataka Vaibhava starts this evening, Friday August 16, and continues on August 17 and 18. The artists featured are Vidwan Ashwin Anand on the Veena on 16th, Vidushi Amrutha Venkatesh, vocal on the the 17th and Vidwan R.K. Padmanabha, vocal on the 18th. All the concerts will be held at the Indian Heritage Academy Hall, Koramangala and will start at 6 pm.

With due respects, I have a problem with branding it along with the name of the state (Karnataka here).
I am sure these artists are being invited because they are exceptional artists and not due to their geographical boundary.
I understand that the so-called "Chennai" artists tend to outnumber and grab more opportunities than the "local" artists - however, highlighting the geography only tends to reinforce these perceptions.

It is a two year old concert. Probably smt. Sathyavathy would be having a recording, recorded by one of her students. It will indeed be nice if they can locate it and send a link. I remember it to be a very informative lecdem, especially her chaste unadulterated Kannada. She is a regular performer and there must be many of her recordings on the Internet. Even today I saw an interview of TSS in Anannya July magazine.
