Bombay S. Ramachandran passes away

Just heard that Sri Bombay S. Ramachandran passed away aged 89. He was a disciple of Chittoor Subramania Pillai. Later he received ''Sangita Vidwan' title from the Central College of Carnatic Music, Chennai in 1949. He was awarded the title of 'Sangita Kala Acharya' from the Music Academy in 2001.

Sri Ramachandran was Professor of vocal music in the Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Vidyalaya, Mumbai for over 35 years. He has groomed many artsites like Aruna Sairam, Geetha Raja, Meera Nathan, Nanditha Ravi, Shobha Sekhar, Jayashri Ramachandran.

I learnt for close to 15 years from him. He was very old school in the sense very strict yet very affectionate. I remember the time when I was about 15 and down with a bad bout of Jaundice, he would come every Monday and Friday during my class times though I couldn't sing. They say greens are best to battle Jaundice, so he would cook a different 'keerai' every class for 2-3 weeks. Lots learnt from him, lot of good times. Will always be with me till its my time. RIP Sir.
