Increasingly, I find Saxaphone more popular than Nadaswaram; in marriages, and even in temple festivals. I was at Navarathri Utsavam in a temple and the mangala vadhyam was Saxaphone.
Saxaphone has a pleasant, baritone sound (sugam sangeeth) and is good for light ragas like sindhubhairavi, Revathi, Kadanakuduhalam ... etc. but in my view, saxaphone does not have the grandeur of Nadaswaram - Kamboji, or thodi etc or ability to generate the power packed sangathis in the famous Thyagaraja krithis.

Saxophone is the plague of Karnataka.
Mandolin is the curse of Andhra.
Not to be outdone, Tamil Nadu has the keyboard!
