Sanjay's scintillating offering in Bangalore on 27 /10.

Since offering appears to be the current buzz word, yesterday evening Sanjay offered a sumptuous fare at Gayana Samaja's grand finale. With his trusted aides, Varadarajan, Venkatesh and KV Gopalakrishnan, the packed house was offered a non stop 3 and a half hour joyride that no one in the audience wanted to end. It was high energy, high octane stuff full of twists, turns and pleasant surprises. Typical Sanjay fare.

I am not much of a song list person, but someone following up on this can do the honours. However, Khamas (Sarasa dala nayana), Bhairavi (Mahatripura sundari) and the Ramapriya RTP took pride of place. Aalapanas for all three were top drawer stuff.

In sum, Sanjay's offering left everyone going home feeling happy and elated. Like Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather, Sanjay made us all an offer we could not refuse.

Thanks for the review and the song list.

As expected, a substantial list of songs in solid rAgAs and in not so often heard rAgAs. An assortment of compositions, heard and not often heard, as expected.

Braindrain,
The pallavi words are the opening lines of the vasantha song: ellAm Sivan Seyal enRE kavalaiyinRi iruppAi maDa nenjamE (fret not, you foolish heart). 'maDa' is the missing word.

A three and a half hour concert, another plus!

Badari, gardhaba_gAna and others would have been there, I guess...

Sanjay LEADS. I am keeping aside Sangita Kalanidhi's BMK and TNS who are yet performing while making this statement. The concert showed THE truth. The rendition of the melakartha 2 chakras made all sit gasping but not the singer. The mridhangam was showed no loss of strength. SK RKS is altogether a different league. Classical touches and bhava.

I remembered Jaya Jaya Gokula (jayadeva) rendition of Sanjay a few years back. The violinist ( no name taken) probably not knowing the flow nearly waited for an end after every charanam.

The other was a 21 raga suite for a virutham by the SK TNS in the very same BGS ( starts with Basant Bahar !).

The RTP had the Sanjay standard. I guessed the raga,initially, as Saraswathi. It had the hall spell-bound as described by the President of BGS.
Diction in rendition was more clear.
The power in exerting the right hit at swaras; awesome.
Music Academy should consider SS for SK next year; may be another SS(I?) to make it young.

Others have to raise to such levels. Complacent young performers are more in the circuit especially I happen to listen to a duo; more indulging in praising each other thru the concerts. Just OK overall.

Looks like Ramapriya was the flavor of the day in bangalore y'day. I believe TNS sang Ramapriya too for Vishesha. I missed this concert - with Sanjay coming again in a few weeks for Nadasurabhi - I decided to go to Vid. Manda Sudharani at SRLKM.
