Thanks, Vkailasam for mAND and for bringing our forumite Shankaranarayanan singing it, along with Niranjan.
Wonder if they will have different singers in each segment.

Re: Apurva Ragangal
Thanks, VKailasam avl.
The concept and show are both very nice. Well done Shankar & Niranjan!
I wish they had picked a different ragam than mAnd for this first exposition. The lighter version actually sounds better and appears to have more scope for exploration! I'm sure future shows will feature more interesting comparisons where the two versions sound very distinct!
And does anyone know what Sri Niranjan's background is? Is he trained classically?

Re: Apurva Ragangal
Thanks VKailasam. You keep us informed of the new trends which bring CM to the fore.
Subhasree and Manimaran have to be appreciated for their concept and execution of this program.
We get to see more of the talents of our forum mate Shankar. Niranjan is equally appealing in this program. They seem so well suited for the medium of TV as well.
This is a much better and direct way to reach the youngsters who have interest in CM but are not sure how to appreciate it without any guidance. Seems like an effective way to bring them into the fold of CM, more than any number of fusion concerts, most of which fail to impress both the newbies and the experienced listeners.
Shankar,
Great to see the ease with which you communicate on the screen. It shows that both you and Niranjan are enjoying this experience.' VaLarga' CM experience for the young!
'apUrvaMAga irundadu!', is an old world expression. So, this kalyANi, though not an apUrva rAgam was--apUrvamAga irundadu! Kudos, both of you!

Thanks VKailasam. Very enjoyable. Niranjan is just super keeping pace with Sankar...
I have the same misgivings as arasi.
How does Kalyani fit in as an Apurva Ragam
With the focus on Cine ragas in what way is this different from what Charulatha Maniis purveying?

THe same question has been asked in the youtube comments thread on kalyani. This is the reply that the organizers have given
"MaximummediaTVTV 6 days ago
sir, we are trying to portray some of the aboorva aspects of known and unknown ragas. especially for people who would may or may not know what is Kalyani et al. so we named it aboorva raagangal. Thanks for your inputs and complements sir"

Re: Apurva Ragangal
An interesting program - I would say that this is a variation on the performances of Madurai Sri GS Mani, where he used to present the 'filmy' version of rAgas followed by a brief outline of the same rAgas handled in a classical way. While the spoken part of the apUrva rAgangaL episodes come off a bit stiffly, musically, the two performers have great chemistry. I liked the two episodes (mAND and kalyANi) that have been posted here.
Have I understood it correctly that the various episodes are supposed to occur on different days? If so, then, at the very least, the artists will need different outfits for each episode to maintain the illisuion that they occur on different days, even if they were all taped at one time!!

Here you go, Ravi (I noticed it too), and I like the way they are simply dressed, and the way the set was not ablaze with colors and splashing lights!
If the taping is done for more than one episode, yes, for them to change kurtas between takes is a good idea (and like Subhasree and Manimaran's wardrobe), kept simple!
