like listening to all his 72 songs!

No offence but IMHO, Prince Rama Verma's style of singing is not advisable for one and all.
He has mastered and individualised his style based on his guru BMK's style - however it is one which can not and IMO should not be emulated.
Also his patantharam of kritis other than those of BMK didn't impress me.
PP.

Splitting the lyrics correctly and giving respect to the composer certainly doesn't seem to be the order of the day;
that is true. As for patantharams, I am trying to figure out what is unimpressive about these randomly selected
non Balamurali songs.

I guess the 30 lakh views in Varmaji's channel indicate the fact that a few others share my taste too
Thank you Musiquebox, for bringing us these wonderful videos.

Just a matter of disagreement here.sweetsong wrote:Splitting the lyrics correctly and giving respect to the composer certainly doesn't seem to be the order of the day;
I have utmost regard to Sri Vermaji and respect his dedication to the propagation of Sri BMK's compositions.
I am not a musician or a knowledgeable person for that matter - just a lay but curious rasika.
However, something tells me that we need to first know what "splitting words correctly" exactly means?
Does mere word boundary define correctness?
Changing the word positions seems to me to alter the rhythm of the song to my untrained ears.

I also am a lay person and can't really give many examples. But I definitely find a refreshing difference when
Varmaji sings certain songs like Vatapi and sings Vaaranaasyam instead of cutting it as Vaaranaa and then Syam
Or Endaro and Mahanubhavulu rather than Endaroma
Of course, when we are conditioned to one thing, it is always difficult to accept and enjoy change, even when
it is a change for the better. I used to feel this too initially when I encountered his approach, even of explaining
the meanings of songs, introducing the accompanists like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHEFvXUsFE4
and so on.
But now I am totally addicted to the refinement he brings to things in general.
I have never been too keen on group singing in classical music.
But I was stunned by the perfection with Varmaji teaches even difficult songs
to large groups of students of all ages. I found this Seetha Kalyana particularly
haunting.
