In spite of my health problems, I have attended the concerts of the Hindustani music by Sri Darwar Venkateshkumar
and the carnatic music concert of Sri TM Krishna at the BSU’S Concert festival on 04.11.2013.

I am a fan of Sri Venkateshkumar [courtesy Sri Varsha].

The entire concert was soaked in bhakthi, amazing alaaps, swara cascades, and crowned with a tharana.

The following ragas were sung.
1. Todi [Subhapanthuvarali].
2. Bhimplas.
3. Soni [Hamsanandi.
4. Devarnama in Bairavi [Sindubairavi].

The first item was not Todi, it was Multani, as Panditji himself announced at the end of the piece.
Pt Venkatesh Kumar is one of the most telling examples today, of the full, open-throated style with pitch fidelity across octaves, that is the hallmark of vintage Indian classical music. No amount of new-fangled "voice-culture techniques" (oh, how I hate that term!) can ever replace that. It was spine-tingling stuff last night. Honest music with zero pretences!
