Ganesh Kumaresh at Hyderabad on 20th November 2013

Ganesh & Kumaresh were featured in the series of concerts held in Sri Satya Sai temple in Hyderabad, as part of the celebration on the 88th Birth anniversary of the Bhagavan. Their violin concert was held on the 20th Nov.

The brothers were accompanied on the mrudangam by Sri V V Ramana Murthy and on the ghatam by Trichy Krishna. .

The concert list and my observations are given below.

1. Ninnukori - Varnam - Mohanam
2. Raga Pravaham in Mayamalavagowlai
3. Sadanchite Mudanchita – Ganesh rendered the whole item vocally
4. Sogasuga mrudanga tala – Sriranjani (Thyagaraja).
5. Raghuvara – Pantuvarali (Thyagaraja). The raga alapana was taken up for a very detailed treatment. This was followed by the tani avartana in which both the percussionists excelled.
6. Naraharideva Janardana – Yamuna Kalyani (Badrachalam Ramadasar).
7. Brahmam Okate – (Annamacharya)
8. Bhagyatha Lakshmi (Mangalam) , Harivarasanam, Nagumomu - Madhyamavathi

The virtuosity shown by the brothers is amazing. Even while playing at a high speed and covering a range of more than three octaves, there was absolute alignment of sruti, which is a proof of their mastery over the instrument.
