ROBERT STEVENSON CONCERT
The Society of Ethnomusicology gives the Robert Stevenson award to ethnomusicologists who are also composers, based on nominations by ethnomusicologists. Glad to share that Rohan was one of the nominees this year. The award is, historically, conferred on very senior musicians ( a la Sangeetha Kalanidhi, one might say!). Although Rohan was not the recipient of the award he was specially invited to perform in their recent national conference in Indianapolis. He teamed up with Professor Michael Bakan of Florida State University who is a tubanito expert. They played Rohan's composition "Shades of Three". Rohan had composed this for a duet with Grammy Award winning percussionist Glen Velez few years ago. Nice to see mridangam making steady march into the conservative Western system of music.

Neither I nor Rohan will be coming to Chennai in December. Rohan has a major performance at Stanford University and Julliard College of Music in December. Are you stationed in Chennai?arasi wrote:Hope we can meet during the season!

Re: ROBERT STEVENSON CONCERT
Rohan tells me that his event is part of the Acoustical Society of America's Annual conference. Since the number of participants will be a couple of thousand, the conference will be in Downtown. Also entry is only for the registered participants. If he has any other performance, I shall post. Thanks for your interest.appu wrote:Rama, I am currently visiting Stanford until late December. Re: ROBERT STEVENSON CONCERT
Stanford I guess is the main organizer of this section and like most national conferences there are session organizers and the even will always be in a convention center that can accommodate large number of participants. Couple of years ago he had performed at the Percussive Society of America meeting in Indianapolis and I was not allowed entry since I was not a registrant for the conference.appu wrote:Rama,
