Lalgudi Jayaraman's wife passes away
Very sad to hear that the 'woman behind the legend' , Smt. Rajalakshmi Jayaraman expired on Monday evening at chennai. It must be a great shock to their children and the family.

SHE was as REMARKABLE as LGJ & those of us who knew her know what a great SUPPORT she was to him and their children. Remarkable person whose life was as fascinating as her husband. LETS PRAY FOR THEIR SOULS. VKV

Cannot agree more. She was a wonderful lady and I had the good fortune of interacting with her since my childhood.cacm wrote:SHE was as REMARKABLE as LGJ & those of us who knew her know what a great SUPPORT she was to him and their children. My prayers and thoughts are with the family. Such huge losses all in quick succession.

Amma was truly a saha dharmacharini, who totally committed and devoted to Lalgudi mama to realize his heights of inspiration and creativity. Perhaps she could not bear the separation and left this mortal body to join mama in spiritual body and continued companionship

Deep condolences. During the 80th b'day celebrations, Vid. Padmavathy (Sir's sister) was effusively praising her "manni" for the support through the decades. Vittal Ramamurthy was touching when he said that she was like a mother to all of Sir's disciples.

Condolences to the family! It is really touching to see how these long-time companions do not survive each other by much - another example is Sri Ishwaran and Smt. DKP.

What a shame! The family did not deserve two losses in a row.
The silent partner kept the shining star going. She also brought up the children and encouraged them in their learning to play the violin. She made sure that her husband's career came first, and that she had to doubly handle the duties of a parent, with a husband traveling and being away from home often. I didn't know her personally, but appreciate her dedicated life.
Condolences to her gifted children, the rest of the illustrious family and friends...

Re: Lalgudi Sahaptham Begins With Lakshmi Devanath's Book
Very saddened to hear the demise of Mrs. Jayaraman. I was quite amazed reading what LD had written in his biography about how she supported him and also the whole family through and through for over 55 years, managing everything quietly behind the scenes but always totally devoted to the cause of her husband and his music. There were points where I stopped and wondered, "Do people like this even exist now?" LGJ must have really done a lot of punyam in his past lives and blessed by God in this matter because there have been many great international violinists with considerably less fortune in their domestic life. More people should understand and appreciate the service of such spouses who have been instrumental in allowing such talents like LGJ to shine like the way they did.
Condolences to Sri. Krishnan and Smt. Vijayalakshmi and the rest of the Lalgudi family (It has been a double blow to them) and my prayers for the departed souls.

A small correction, Srinath...LD is a woman...Smt. Lakshmi Devanath! Unless you knew it, and it was either a slip, or, you were practicing what's called 'Chinglish'....(very un PC of me, I know

Here you are Ramesh, giving life to my feelings so eloquently.
bhArathi's "avan kAriyam yAvilum kai koDuthu" (being his support system in every possible way) applies so aptly to her. May her soul rest in peace...

Lalgudi Sahaptham Begins With Lakshmi Devanath's Book
Dear rshankar, "his" referred to LGJ
. I think we should copy the condolences part of this thread and make a new thread for the passing of Mrs. Jayaraman.

The woman behind the man...

The author Ms Lakshmi Devnath, who had known the 'Lalgudis' closely for very many years, felt that the Biography of this great legend would not be complete unless a whole chapter was dedicated to the amazing woman behind the man. Please read the chapter 'RAJAM' to know her and her selfless contribution in the life of Sri Lalgudi.

My heartfelt condolences.
God should give enough strength to Sri Krishnan and Viji in bearing the loss of their parents in a short span this year.

I thought I posted/started this thread with the news link from the Hindu with this exact title and Apu replied to it as post #2 ! Did the moderators do something?
Anyway, here are Viji's words :
Rajam....
Words fail me. I'm numbed as fate has snatched away yet another beautiful person very dear to my heart, my Mother, in such a short span of time after my father's passing away in April. To say the least, through out her life she showed how happiness can be derived from a tiny oasis of a positive element hiding in a desert of pain. She proved to be a winner all through her life, not by receiving but in giving unconditionally and winning others' hearts. Loving and serving others was the easiest of all as she always made it seem. Will miss her forever. I thank each one of you for your message and support at this this testing time. Thank you all.
