Re: A Letter to Music Industry
Witty Weirdo is brilliant!
You know, Venkatakailasam, the Carnatic music recording industry is in a total shambles if you ask me. My experiences recently:
1. I downloaded after purchase sime tracks (also got CDs) from two famous labels...the tracks were broken and defective, had to be replaced after my complaints.
2. one CD manufacturer is asking for 100% advance DD payment and 20% courier charges for sending me his CDs. He replies to emails after some weeks.
3. There is NO online shop selling at least 70-80% of an artiste's recordings.
4. Whereas Walmart has already forayed into India with daily ugly/cheap stuff and scams and all, I think there is NO mega store for Carnatic music. Like street-side vegetable vendors, the same hapless kiosks come up outside every concert, selling sporadic and obviously unsold CDs accumulated from leftover stocks.
I find MANY spelling and labeling mistakes on covers.
It is high time an ARTISTE COLLECTIVE starts selling their music online. They should ensure at least 80% of any CD/track released by an artiste is available. They should take advance orders to fetch the remaining, they should have reasonable courier charges and good support/issue resolution.
How about calling it Carnatic Artiste Records Direct = CARD. Any artiste signs up to CARD by a simple membership and promise that they will ensure stocks, information accuracy, and prompt updates for their own tracks. That is all.
Each track is labelled In a data base as artiste+instrument/mode-each accompanist name+instrument/mode-song-composer-raga-tala-year of production-venue/occasion-album title-genre-if part of a series-brief sleeve notes.

Re: A Letter to Music Industry
I am under the impression that charsur india is providing this kind of service connecting Artists and Rasikas..
But the price charged by them is considered prohibitive...I am not sure..
Apart from this the sabhas are also selling CDs of concerts and have arrangements with the Artists..
Albums released by commercial recording companies are of low quality Cds and many times they do not fit in with Pcs...
Probably they are meant for DVD players....
We can wait for veterans comments..

Why, Oh Why did I think that (after the one that RSachi renamed) we had yet another thread on one of our own?
On second thoughts, can this be an avatar?
