An experience rather than a concert, inspite of mOhanam (fantastic swarams though). Thats it.
Manoj Siva - he seems to be not very appreciated/talked about. I found his playing has a sparseness and lack of anAvasyams, no assault on the ear drums. The way he accompanied for bAla gOpAla was just fantastic IMO with pauses now and then. Tani also had lots of interesting patterns, and I think it had 4 different phases

Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi, who was supposed to play, could not. So, Vittal Ramamurthy was replaced.
Vijay siva came late by 10 minutes because of the traffice. He walked to come to the venue. He apologised for the delay.
MGR-Janaki college auditorium is even smaller than Nada Inbam. so the hall was full. The place itself is very lonely (inside) and old people find it difficult to reach this place. But Nalinakanti is conducting the programmes here only. Having said that, during Dec, wherever, u have CM, there will be people.
About the concert:
Vijay Siva must have read my previous review (BVB), he did two things.
He started with a Ganapathi Kriti.
By mistake, I wrote EvarUra (mohanam) instead of kalyAni kriti, Eta vunara. So, He sang Mohanam
What more you want ? Todi, Bairavi and mohanam. I thought saranga was sub main, He took Bairavi and Mohanam as "double-main" and gave a superb performance yesterday.
For me, Kandar anubhoothi was not sitting properly for the concert. You can sing one or two verses of KA and move to the next. A 12 minutes rendering of full KA may not be liked by all rasikas. The mind set of the rasikas for CM concert is every 6-7 minutes, they need something different, including going to canteen (!!).
Tomorrow, if some one else takes Shasti kavacham or even Vishnu sahasranamam in the concert (!!!), there will be "Neyvedhyam, karpporam, Dhoopam before Mangalam.
Normally, VS does not repeat the kritis in consecutive concerts. This pAsuram, he sang in NGS, BVB and Nalinakanti. Though, there are no issues, VS has to look into it.
Dasarendare- is purandara dAsar.

dAsarendarE purandaradAsaru is not a kRti by purandaradAsaru ...it is by his guru, vyAsarAya praising purandaradAsaru as the true example of a hari dAsa - can't get any better than that, right? ('vasishThar vAyAla brahmaRSi' - probably equal to 'being proclaimed a brahmARSi by none other than vasishTha himself').

My first concert of December 2013 
I arrived late, just as I did for his concert at the same venue in December 2012. The hall was full then, as now, and, again, with no seats in the auditorium, I ended up with a wonderful seat on stage. Last year there were quite a few overflowing onto the stage, this year just a handful of us.
Manoj Siva is a Still Quiet Voice, of and with mridangam. Last year I was thrilled to be sitting almost next to Trichy Sankaran, this year I really enjoyed sitting behind Manoj Siva.
It was a lovely start to my December. Vija Siva never disapoints.
Traffic? It took me longer to reach the hall than it usually does to reach Mylapore, and only about 2/3 the distance. It is the first time I have been in a jam on Adyar bridge since they widened it.

Nice to know that VS concerts are full - hope to catch him at MA if I indeed make it to the December Season.
