Concert Reckoner

Post by parivadini »

The December season doesn't start without laying our hands on this handy season reckoner.

We ran into the man behind the reckoner yesterday and had the pleasure of shooting him for parivadini.

It is now up in our youtube channel for your pleasure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Pkp7evkdnk

Keep it up parivadini team,IIRC shri kannan is also behind publishing the alphabetic list of ragas and krithis. About 8 years back once i asked him at a sabha in mylapore the ready reckoner , he did not have it then , about 2 days later he saw me sitting in another sabha , he walked to my seat and indeed gave that reckoner in person.

Nice interview he mentions vikram and ramkumar . I am assuming they are Vikram K raghavan (vocalist) and mrudangam artist R Ramkumar (our rams). Is that right? Looks the kutcheris.com also works in tandem with kannan.

Yes. Great work, Parivadini.
If I had to choose the best single new feature of this season, I would vote for Parivadini. Not only are the live webcasts good, but there is an archive of these performances/interviews/events for people living in varied time zones.

Gamakam,

Parivadini is working so hard (how many shifts? :) ) to bring good music and interviews to us. Such a good service for the home bound and for folks who are not in Chennai.

Kannan is an affable person, and it's always a pleasure to run into him during the season :) And, how hard HE works!

I have to admit--I go to Nalli to get the Reckoner more than to buy saris. If I can't get a copy, Kannan to the rescue!

Gamakam,
I wish you hadn't filmed this outside NGS. The traffic noise detracts. Right there on the top of those steps, in front of the sweet shop might have been better? Just a suggestion, so that you can film other interviews in quieter surroundings (I know, I know, they are hard to find!).

Rajesh: yes, the ones he mention are Vikram Raghavan and Ramkumar indeed.

Mahavishnu: Thanks for ypur kind words. :-)

Arasi:Point well taken. This interview was totally unprepared. We ran into Kannan as he was making his way out of NGS. We had delayed his exit for a few mins. I didn't want to fuss too much about location and noise as it is not easy to get an agreement for an interview with a naturally extremely self effacing person like Shri. Kannan. Hope you understand what I mean :-)

However, we will definitely try for quieter surroundings.
