R. K. Shriramkumar - Violin
Mannargudi Easwaran - Mrudangam
Vaikkom Gopalakrishnan - Ghatam
It was an A-list team of Bros-R.K.Shriram Kumar-Mannargudi Easwaran-Vaikom Gopalakrishnan.
As The Hindu reviewer had pointed out recently, Malladi Bros concerts are "Minimum Guarantee" concerts quite like the Jaishankar movies of the 70s. Seldom disappoint the audience. Consistent, quality performance being their hallmark. Yesterday was no exception.
'Ninne Kori' varnam in Kaanada and 'Sri pathE nee pada' in NagaswaraLi with a round of swaras.
'Sri Naathaathi Guru Guho' in Mayamalavagowlai. Alapana and swarams in Sriranjani kriti 'Iniyoru KaNam'. (Presumed it was Abhogi till they started the kriti )
Raga 'Balahamsa' and the Tyagaraja kriti 'Thalli Thandrulu' - not a kriti/raga one hears frequently.
"talli taNDrulu kala pEru kAni ila nI sari daivamulu-evarE"
"You have a name (pEru) of having (kala) parents - mother (talli) and father (taNDri) (taNDrulu), but (kAni), in reality, which-so-ever (evarE) Gods (daivamulu) (daivamulevarE) are equal (sari) to You (nI) in this World (ila)?"
Beautiful Danyasi alapana. Shriramkumar showing his mettle in his returns. The team performing even better during the neraval-swara segment!
'DhyAnamE varamaina gangA snAnamE manasA' -- O Mind! A bath in the holy GangA river destroys sins. True; but meditation on SrI RAma is an infinitely superior bath. Will any number of dips in the rain water wash the stains of deceit and treachery from the heart?
'Bhajare re chiththa' in Kalyani and 'yEmayya Ramaa' in Khamboji delivered crisply.
RTP in Sri raga with the pallavi 'Mahalakshmi Karunarasa Pravahini'. Ragamalika swarams in Mohanam, Nattakurinji and Shanmugapriya.
Listening pleasure indeed with the whole team coming together and egging on each other. Easwaran sir was seen constantly encouraging and applauding the Ghatam vidwaan.
Kritis in Thilang and Sindu Bhairavi wrapped up the concert.
Evening well spent
