RasikOmeter - your response to music

Post by Rsachi »

Dear rasikas,
I think in all our reviews and comments on specific items of music, we tend to use the same old words, great, beautiful, etc. However I think we need a more graduated scale of response. See below:

Now I just heard a rebroadcast of the Ashwin Anand veena program on AIR 100.1 There have been many instances of a musician making his mark on the starry stage with just one single performance on radio. This is one of those performances. And if I were to use the RasikOmeter,

Sri varalakshmi - Wah
Aparadhamula - Ahha
Sankari sankuru - Awesome
Jagadoddharana - Wah

Please consider using this scale in your reviews!
What say??

Interesting. I see going from 0 to Ahha in just 3 seconds, while some others need jumper cables.
Some years ago, Rajesh came up with something called the "panic" index. I must admit that this is a little less scary ;)

Or, the instances when people make a sound that I can only liken to the call of a lizzard (not the Geico one!)?

Sirs, these are the days of crowd sourcing, electronic voting machines, referendums, and online translators.
Bhale=Shabhash=Wah or Ahha...the RasikOmeter app on your smartphone will prompt you to choose one or the other.
Tiktiki sounds = lizard exclamations fall in the same category.
Coming to feelings of instant gratification/ejaculation (look up the non-profane meanings in dictionary.com) where speed of response is concerned, the RasikOmeter acts like a digital thermometer wherein it looks for a stable signal for say 20 seconds...

Thanks indeed for these lovely responses. But I thought we had to start somewhere....:-)

I use the o meter always but with words that cannot have ambiguity and tress pass to its neighboring quadrant- a rough approximation of yours with mine would be:
o = mediocre
ok=good
wah= very good
ahha = excellent
awesome = outstanding

Beautiful. Thanks Rajesh, that's a good explanation of the RasikOmeter scale.
