She however sang it in BhoopaaLam. She also announced so.

Very enjoyable concert. Her voice was also perfect. (Last couple of times I heard, she was struggling with breathlessness,etc.,)

Also childlike cheerfulness during singing and mini talks in between songs, makes it all the more entertaining.

Was hoping to see TVS sir's Jaya TV MMU concert in Youtube but after Nithyasree they have not uploaded (only 1st 3 in the series) are available so far.
Hope someone can tell Jaya TV team to continue to upload the MMU 2013 concerts of all artistes. This is a request. Am so looking forward to Vijay Siva and S Sowmya.

Sowmya's recital was really top notch. She had lived in Kerala, but surprisingly, I have never heard any ST kriti from her so far. Her Malayalam diction was perfect in singing two Malayalam kritis. Gopalaka pahimam - it was sung in Bhoopalam and not Revagupti. Her Guru also sings in that manner. The Khamas kriti is a favourite of her Guru. IN fact, very few Kerala vidwans sing that song. As explained by Sowmya, that song is in rendumkettan kalapramanam- with tightly packed sahithyam. The nerval was scholarly- exactly as her Guru does. I request our guys to watch the same song sung by Dr.SR with Lalgudi and VR in you tube- It is really great Is Sowmyas programme uploaded by Jaya TV. I would love to watch it again.

Oh yes ! TVS kutcheri is uploaded and a good one too. Wonder why there were no Q/A sessions for him.
I don't understand the value of Q/A session in Jaya TV MMU because most of the time the questions are not that great and many times the answers from the artistes are either 'no idea' or some forced crap. Isn't it enough that there are themes and the artistes explain the songs chosen for the theme as the concert progresses. I don't find any value add from the Q/A sessions - i don't think Veenai Gayathri answered even 1 question as a direct answer - she was like 'no idea' or 'ask someone else' or 'forget it' ! Even Sanjay never gives a proper answer he always says something funny. Only Sowmya and Vijay Siva perhaps provide some scholarly answers. Other enthusiasts like Aruna Sairam give some response in a very excited manner and get claps. The time invested on Q/A can include 1 more song at least.

Yes, that piece by SR with Lalgudi is such a gem. It was one of the earliest carnatic uploads on youtube.I must have seen it at least a 100+ times. You can spot Sowmya sitting in the corner behind her guru in that video!

I believe Cool-ji was instrumental in bringing that recording into the public domain. We are all indebted to him for it!

Very nice concert by Smt Sowmya and team. Especially the kamas song and Thodi song made a high impact.
During the concert talk sessions Sowmya mentioned that she will be asking the audience a question on some composition and it's composer or something of the sort.
Can any of the members who attended the whole programme please tell the question and the answer given.?

What is the original Ragam of the krithi, Bhavayami Raguramam composed by swati Tirunal. ?

Oh is it ? I think i know this one.

Originally all stanzas of Bhavayami Raguramam were tuned to Saveri by Swati Thirunal himself.

However Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer differed and retuned each stanza as it sung today in ragamalika with beautiful swara embellishments to increase the song's popularity and reduce boredom !

Semmangudi retuned because he rightlyfelt that in course of time, vidwans may sing only one charanam and that will chop the Ramayana Kriti. What a foresight. Now we are discussing that the ragam is not appropriate and thalam is not correct. All have become highly knowledgeable.
